Facilities Technical Planner

Position Purpose

This position provides planning and management support for a broad range of technical FM Projects. This position be responsible for the coordination and maintenance of the facilities-condition data base and other FM reference materials. This position will provide the campus with in-house drafting expertise. During the faculty move-season this role will assist the Program Manager/Facilities Designer.

Key Accountabilities
  • Coordinate planning and design efforts related to a range of projects from MEP system upgrades/replacements, utility work, sustainable design efforts, building upgrades and/or design projects
  • Provide design management and coordination with internal and external stakeholders, including facilities management (FM) team, Academy community, design, engineering and specialty consultants, construction managers and others as required.
  • Manage organization of facilities information and record keeping. Responsibilities include maintaining and coordinating updates/updating facilities information databases and electronic and hard copy file storage systems including: campus asset management system, campus maps and utility maps, facilities condition information /database and historical drawing files. This includes providing data to outside vendors for annual updates, corrections and changes in facility floor plans.
  • Be a technical resource for all FM Managers and team for computer aided design programs, including AutoCADD, Revit/BIM, GIS and InDesign. Provide in-house drafting/graphic needs for architectural, engineering and other Facilities Management related work.
  • Perform inspections and develop facilities condition assessment needs for single and multifamily unit faculty housing. Input and maintain data into existing facilities assessment database. Assist FM Team in support of long-term capital renewal planning for campus assets.
  • Assist Program Manager/Facilities Designer in the planning and scoping of necessary system upgrades for faculty apartments and houses. Act as a backup for the Program Manager/Facilities Designer with faculty relocations and associated vendors.
  • Primary support for Program Manager/Facilities designer in the development of scopes of work for mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) systems for renewal projects. Provide technical sketches/drawings as required, input to the maintenance work order system, coordination with in-house Construction PM for housing and outside consultants as required.
  • Assist Campus Planner/Architect and other FM Team members as needed on planning/design/construction oversite tasks related to capital projects, planning studies and other projects related to the long term stewardship of the physical campus.
  • Serve/meet with consultants on various committees to develop concepts and plans for new construction, renovations and other campus changes.
  • Support assigned Construction PMs to execute capital improvement projects.
Computer and Other Qualifications for Position

Proficient in Microsoft office suite, AutoCADD R19, Building Information Modeling (BIM) programs (similar to Revit) and Adobe InDesign Proficiency in GIS, preferred as well as familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems and facilities condition data bases

Experience

  • At least five years of professional experience in educational facilities management or a related field required. Relevant experience includes, work with an architecture, engineering or construction firm or related MEP subcontractor.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems for residential buildings for larger institutional buildings.
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, preferably in engineering, architecture or design
  • EIT (Engineer in Training) preferred.
