Job Summary

CU Boulder encourages applications for a Program Data Analyst on our healthcare team! This position is a critical member of Health & Wellness’s Administrative Services Team, reporting directly to the Quality Improvement Coordinator. The Analyst is primarily responsible for Health & Wellness data management, routine and non-routine data analysis, benchmarking, ad-hoc analyses and scenario plans. Additionally, this position is responsible for procedural documentation, data system implementation and the communication of data into high-level visualizations, dashboards, and summary reports. This position requires critical thinking, the ability to perform robust data analyses, independent problem solving abilities, effective and collaborative interpersonal skills, detail-orientation, initiative, and the ability to manage simultaneous, high-profile projects.

Data will be used to promote operational excellence within Health & Wellness at CU Boulder, with the goal to drive innovation and discovery. The Program Data Analyst position will work with end users (e.g. Physicians, Researchers, and Administrators), campus analysts, developers, and other technical personnel, and will serve as a critical contact on data through the data warehouse integration process. In addition, this role documents and implements data definitions, business, and technical rules, and monitors and audits data quality.

This is a limited term appointment, anticipated to end no later than January 2022.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Data Services
  • Independently analyze business needs and data resources to propose, create and maintain operational and technical reporting from various applications and databases.
  • Manage data quality of the data warehouse, working with technical teams to ensure confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data.
  • Identify and define business system and process problems, and make recommendations for resolution. This includes effective troubleshooting and managing technical issues.
  • Gather and analyze information relevant to current and new products and services.
  • Work with partners to understand data needs and to define requirements to design appropriate solutions.
  • Independently mine data through advanced computerized models and on an ad-hoc basis to extrapolate patterns and trends of the business.

Reporting
  • Manage operational and data reporting processes and ensure reports are available when needed.
  • Partner with operational groups for reporting needs.
  • Work closely with information technology to improve data reporting.
  • Prioritize report development and data acquisition as requested.
  • Assist the Assistant Vice Chancellor and Health & Wellness staff with the implementation of new data and reporting systems.

Business Liaison
  • Participate in multi-discipline, high-performance work teams/groups within Health and Wellness and across campus.
  • Responsible for innovative and collaborative healthcare projects on campus that are aimed to improve health and wellness services through data and analytics.
  • Work with clinicians to understand operations by asking analytic questions, determining data needs, and designing solutions with data integration and technology platforms.
  • Assist partners with data governance processes and practices to ensure data recipients have appropriate training and approvals before receiving data.


What We Can Offer

Annual Salary Range: $48,000 to $52,994.

What We Require

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a field of study related to the work assignment.
  • Appropriate experience will substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Training or certification related to the work assigned to the position will be considered as a substitution for the required experience and/or education.


What You Will Need

  • Skills working with clinical data, including knowledge of clinical health care data and practice.
  • Ability to manage data profiling and data mapping documentation.
  • Ability to support development of BI dashboards and reports, and data analytic initiatives.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Demonstrated dedication and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.
  • Success working in an integrated environment and working within a multi-functional team.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analyzing datasets (Excel, SPSS, SAS, R etc.)


What We Would Like You To Have

  • Master’s degree from an accredited four year institution of higher education.
  • Experience with healthcare data, such as data profiling, data quality, data analysis/reporting.
  • Experience working with a healthcare electronic medical record (EMR) system’s data model.
  • SQL skills for querying data.
  • Experience visualizing data and building dashboards in Tableau.
