Duties Performed in the Usual Course of the Job
The chair position is a full-time, tenured faculty position. The School of Teaching and Learning offers undergraduate coursework in Education; Master’s degrees in Comparative and Global Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Reading/Language Arts, Special Education, and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages; and a Doctoral degree in Literacy.
The chair will work collaboratively with faculty to encourage and support the diverse goals of individual faculty members, staff members, students, and programs within the School of Teaching and Learning. The chair will maintain an open-door presence on campus; promote K-12 partnerships with EC-12 schools in the area; lead and coordinate strategic planning and curriculum development for the department by working side-by-side with all members of the department; coordinate accreditation and program approval initiatives; manage the School’s budget and financial decisions; evaluate faculty and staff performance; provide service to the University, community, and profession; actively participate in student recruitment; facilitate professional development programs for faculty and staff; support the pursuit of external funding opportunities; and promote and support initiatives related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Educational Requirements for the Position
Earned Doctorate in Education or related field.
Experience Required for the Position
The candidate must have experience in the following: K-12 education, University teaching; teacher preparation; leadership in higher education; and curriculum development including online program development. The candidate must have a strong record of scholarly productivity; demonstrate a record of service in relevant professional organizations at the state and national levels; and must qualify for appointment at the level of Associate or Full professor.
Other Requirements for the Position
Preferred experience as a department chair or administrator at the University level.
