Duties Performed in the Usual Course of the Job

The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences is one of four departments in the College of Health Sciences, and the Interior Design program is one of four undergraduate programs in the department. The Department invites applications for the position of Program Coordinator of Interior Design at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. The department offers a B.S. or B.A. in Interior Design and holds accreditation from the Council for Interior Design Accreditation ( CIDA ) and National Association of Schools of Art and Design ( NASAD ).

Usual Duties:

Duties of the position include teaching undergraduate courses in all levels of the Interior Design program. Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and the Adobe Creative Suite are a must. Membership in at least one of the following organizations: IDEC, IIDA, ASID, AIA is preferred. In addition to overseeing the program accreditation processes and reviews, the Program Coordinator duties include coordinating program assessment, updating the course catalog, mentoring students, and overseeing program curriculum development. The successful candidate will be responsible for fostering and maintaining industry relationships to help students with networking, internships, and being aware of current trends in interior design. Additional expectations include service to the department, college, and university as well as maintaining scholarly/creative activities.

Time allocation for this position is 75/25, with 75% allotted to teaching undergraduate and graduate students, research, and service; and 25% to managing the Program Coordinator duties which includes the responsibilities, as determined by CIDA, and the needs of the interior design program and department.

The position is a tenure-track, nine-month position with potential for summer employment.

Educational Requirements for the Position

Applicants must have a Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Interior Design or closely related field. At least one degree must be in interior design.

Experience Required for the Position

A minimum of three years teaching experience at the post-secondary level and minimum of 3 years professional experience is preferred. Prior leadership experience as well as participation in the CIDA accreditation process and preparation of self-study reports is also desired.

Other Requirements for the Position

Applicants must also hold NCIDQ certification. A state license and at least one of the following credentials/certifications: LEED -AP, AAHID, WELL -AP, or EDAC is preferred
