Instructor, Instructor in Art History - School of Art
The School of Art at Arizona State University seeks to hire an Instructor in Art History to teach large introductory art history survey courses, including online courses, and to play an important role in foregrounding World Art and global issues in art history and visual culture in the unit. This full-time, instructor position begins August 2021 for a one-year, renewable appointment.

The School of Art in the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University prepares students for the creative and critical challenges of the global 21st century. Students are taught and mentored in an environment that values innovation, excellence and affordability. Our faculty’s active research allows us to offer a number of specialties unique to ASU and the southwest region. The School of Art has programs ranked nationally in the top 9 and our MFA program is ranked in the top 15 by U.S. News & World Report. The introductory art history/visual culture survey courses are fundamental to Art History, Art Education, and Studio Art majors. These courses also serve a sizable number of non-majors needing to fulfill general education requirements, as well as those students pursuing minors. We serve a diverse university-wide population with varying skill levels, including non-art majors. The successful candidate will be focused on teaching and must contribute to curriculum development, including in-person, hybrid, and online courses. This candidate will teach in the Art History area and deliver instruction at the undergraduate level.

- Doctor of Philosophy degree preferred (ABD considered), or, related terminal degree
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching and developing college-level art history/visual culture courses
- Evidence of commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching
- Experience in advancing a diverse student body
- Experience in foregrounding World Art, global issues; and/or indigenous traditions in art history/visual culture courses
- Proficiency with different instruction modalities including in-person, hybrid, and online courses and ability to develop the same
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively
