Associate Director of Development
OFFICE AND BLOOMBERG SCHOOL OVERVIEW
The Office of External Affairs encompasses three teams: 1) Communications and Marketing; 2) Development and Constituent Relations and 3) Finance and Administration.The Development & Constituent Relations Team is responsible for raising philanthropic resources and building connections with alumni and unaffiliated individuals, foundations and corporations to support the School’s education, research and public health practice. The Development group includes individual-giving, institutional-relations, stewardship and communications professionals, and it collaborates significantly with the university’s centrally based colleagues. The Alumni Relations group uses a robust communications program to promote a diverse set of events and engagement opportunities that seek to promote public-health advocacy and annual fund support. GENERAL SUMMARY/ PURPOSE STATEMENT
The Associate Director of Development is responsible for the planning, implementing and managing major and principal giftfundraisingeffortsfor the benefit of the Bloomberg School of Public Health. The Associate Director will develop relationships with persons currently unaffiliated to the School. This position willalsoregularly interact with deans, faculty, staff,students, alumni, volunteers, and friends of the School. Significant travel is associated with this position.
This is a highly independent position with regular reporting to the Director of Principal & Major Gifts, and ultimately to the Associate Dean for Development and Alumni Relations.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Efficient and results-oriented major gift prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities
- Effectively present the case for support of the Bloomberg School of Public Health to corporations, foundations, and individuals.
- Develop and manage a mixed portfolio (discovery/qualification through stewardship) of approximately 120-150 active prospects per year
- Conduct approximately 95 – 120 meaningful contacts each year
- Solicit 20 or more gift proposals of $100,000 or more with anticipated closures of $1M or more as productivity increases over the first year.
- Work effectively with colleagues in the Bloomberg School, in other divisions, and in central development to plan and execute strategies on behalf of the Bloomberg School and to report on progress on a regular basis
- Work effectively with trustees, volunteers, deans, faculty, and senior administration on fundraising initiatives
- Develop fundraising initiatives as assigned from conception to execution, develop related marketing materials, and manage related cultivation events and special projects
- Use information technology and manage donor/prospect data in development database system
- Will serve as the development office liaison to designated academic departments, academic centers and other faculty for development purposes which could include working closely with advisory board members.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (mandatory):

SPECIAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:Candidates must have the ability to thrive in an intellectually challenging, fast-paced, and collegial environment. Political savvy, integrity, discretion and pragmatic consensus building skills required; mature judgment in handling sensitive and confidential information required. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills. Must have a highly professional image with the ability to interact with varied constituents at all levels. Ability to organize and establish objectives and priorities in a complex organizational environment required. This position requires someone with a strong commitment to and passion for the mission of Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. This is a highly independent position with regular reporting to the Director of Principal and Major Gifts, and ultimately to the Associate Dean for Development and Alumni Relations. This position will also require the ability to develop relationship with persons currently unaffiliated to the School.
Technical qualifications or specialized certifications:Prior experience using donor databases preferred.
Any specific physical requirements for the job:Position requires significant travel.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.
The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
