The Indiana Academy serves approximately 250 juniors and seniors who are gifted and talented from across the state of Indiana and through its international program. The Indiana Academy’s major purpose is to provide educational opportunities appropriate to the ability and development of its students. It is a primarily residential high school with several local non-residential students. Through various outreach programs, the Indiana Academy strives to stimulate and enable vitality in educational programs for students who are academically gifted. The Academy is committed to creating innovative programs and practices that attract, retain, and nurture a diverse Academy community.

Position Function

Shape and implement the Academy’s mission and vision of academic success and inclusive excellence for gifted and talented students; provide leadership for the operation of academic and student affairs; manage the budget; develop and evaluate all Academy programs for continuous improvement; comply with pertinent federal, state, and local laws and administrative rules, policies and regulations of the university; communicate with the diverse stakeholders of the Indiana Academy.

Minimum Education

Doctorate in science, mathematics, humanities, or education from an accredited college or university.

Minimum Experience

Three years of experience as an education administrator or equivalent.

Minimum Other

Demonstrated ability to collaborate and communicate effectively.

Authorization to work in the US

Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

Preferred Education

Formal coursework or certificate in gifted education and/or adolescent development.

Preferred Experience

Administrative experience in a residential school; experience with gifted education program or administration; successful fundraising.

Preferred Other

Pre-Employment Screening

Requires successful completion of a background check and education verification.

Position Title(s) Supervised

Director of Academic Affairs, Director of Residential and Student Affairs, International Program Director, Director of External Affairs, Inclusive Excellence Coordinator, Assistant Director of Mental Health Services, and Administrative Coordinator to Executive Director, all Faculty members.

Job Duty

Lead the Academy towards fulfilling its vision of academic success and well-being for students utilizing data-based decision-making; oversee the implementation of vision through collaborative management, principles of equity and inclusion, and instructional leadership of Academy personnel.

Take an active role in the coordination and delivery of ongoing professional development for Academy-wide understanding and implementation of best practices that align with the university’s commitment to inclusive excellence; ensure that student voice is incorporated into such efforts.

Oversee the supervision of Academy personnel, students, and programs associated with them; assign and review work; onboard and train personnel. In accordance with university policies, make recommendations in all areas related to supervision, including but not limited to interviewing and selection, salaries, discipline, performance appraisal, dismissal, and training and career development of personnel.
