The College of Agricultural Science invites applicants for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, fixed-term Director of the Oregon Integrated Pest Management Center (OIPMC). This appointment includes indefinite tenure on a 9-month basis at 1.00 FTE at the rank of Professor in an appropriate unit of the College of Agricultural Sciences. The Director provides overall leadership and administration of OIPMC, including fiscal and personnel oversight, ensures high quality extension and research programs at the OIPMC, fosters research and outreach efforts of the staff, establishes priorities and long range plans, works with external advisory committees and participates in community and industry meetings. The Director oversees a center with potential for over 5+ employees and over 50 OSU affiliated faculty from across the state.  The Director provides fiscal oversight for the center budget (currently over $1 million in state and contract support) encompassing faculty, personnel, and research at multiple locations, and aims to maintain current support while seeking new sources of funding. The successful candidate is expected to maintain applied scholarly activity in relation to research and/or outreach. The Director promotes collaboration among on-and off-campus faculty, other departments, branch stations and industry in agriculture and natural resources disciplines. The Director will establish and maintain strong ties with stakeholders and will be a recognized national and international leader in integrated pest management. The incumbent must demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. This position reports to the Associate Dean for Extension of the College of Agricultural Sciences.

 

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • D. degree in weed science, entomology, integrated pest management, plant pathology, toxicology, weed science, pesticide science, or a closely related IPM discipline.
  • A national/international record of scholarly achievement in research, Extension, and instructional and/or service activities within the IPM-related disciplines, commensurate with the rank of Full Professor with Tenure.
  • Demonstrated successful leadership in the strategic planning and management of a complex organization or research program. 
  • Skilled at bridging gaps between basic and applied research, and between research and Extension in IPM, pesticides, and related disciplines.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and coalesce diverse groups of faculty from different IPM disciplines and across units to accomplish statewide goals and challenges.
  • Clear understanding and commitment to the mission of land grant institutions.
  • Outstanding professional and collaborative leadership. Success in securing internal and external programmatic support for instruction, research, service or outreach.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work with a diverse group of faculty, staff, students, and stakeholders in public agencies and private organizations, growers, volunteers, and the public.

  • Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships.
  • Demonstrated successful leadership in the strategic planning and management of a complex organization or research program.
  • Demonstrated competence in and dedication to recruitment, retention and success of faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience in liaison roles with local communities, organizations and agencies.
  • Familiarity with relevant State and Federal research agencies and programs. Familiarity with relevant State and Federal pesticide laws and regulations.
