Director of Career Education

 

SUMMARY

The Director of Career Education is a creative, strategic, self-motivated, and detail-oriented education professional who will coordinate and deliver exceptional professionally-oriented art and design education that includes credit and non-credit curricula. A new position at CCAD, the Director of Career Education reports to the Dean of Graduate Studies and will be empowered to provide strategic leadership and logistical direction as they create programs that serve adults interested in enhancing their professional skill sets or changing careers, as well as corporate entities interested in providing such training to their employees. To that end, the Director will devise, implement, and manage a portfolio of innovative non-degree professional workshops, classes, certificate programs, and initiatives. In addition, the Director will recruit to, manage, and evaluate a suite of non-terminal Master of Professional Studies graduate degrees. Responsive to the changing needs and trends of the professional sector, programming is expected to be timely, relevant, experimental, and interdisciplinary while also rooted in the skillsets, frameworks, and expertise of art and design methodologies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following: 

Non-Degree Professional Studies Programs

  • Design in-person and online curriculum for professional programming needs
  • Hire, manage, train, and mentor contract faculty and student employees
  • Manage the faculty orientation and evaluation process, and analyze and act on data that emerges from this
  • Maintain program quality and effectiveness while establishing new best practice models that enhance existing and support new programming
  • Create and maintain year-round academic and programmatic schedules
  • Work with marketing and communications team to advertise and document programs
  • Manage and lead enrollment processes
  • Research new areas of programming, identify long-term aims and interests for CCAD's programming in this arena, and establish the means of achieving these
  • Meet enrollment and budgetary goals related to this work

Master of Professional Studies (MPS) Graduate Degree Programs

  • Recruit students to CCAD's interdisciplinary MPS programs, including the MPS in Retail Design, which will launch in August 2021
  • Recruit and maintain a current list of adjuncts and session leaders from the profession
  • Train and mentor adjuncts and session leaders in their work in the classroom
  • In alignment with the work of the Director of Corporate and Community Projects, nurture connections with corporate partners towards MPS capstone project needs
  • Develop, revise, and assess MPS curriculum
  • Regularly meet with and implement feedback from advisory boards for MPS programs
  • In alignment with the work of the Career Services office, offer MPS students career mentorship
  • Plan and execute events relevant to the MPS program, including residential boot camps and guest lectures
  • Manage MPS programming

Corporate Training

  • In alignment with the work of the Director of Corporate and Community Projects, network, negotiate, and contract innovative, bespoke training for local and regional corporations and not-for-profits rooted in CCAD's expertise
  • Design in-person and online curriculum for such training
  • Hire, manage, train, and mentor contract faculty and student employees
  • Manage the faculty orientation and evaluation process, and analyze and act on data that emerges from this
  • Maintain program quality and effectiveness while establishing new best practice models that enhance existing and support new programming

  • Manage and lead enrollment processes for corporate training
  • Research new areas of programming, identify long-term aims and interests for CCAD's programming in this arena, and establish the means of achieving these
  • Meet enrollment and budgetary goals related to this work

General Duties

  • Serve on related committees
  • Proactively communicate and effectively collaborate with cognate offices including but not limited to Career Services, Enrollment Management, Development, Business, Corporate & Community Projects, and Marketing and Communications
  • Attend/schedule/lead meetings were appropriate, and attend all Graduate Studies team meetings
  • Budget planning and oversight for all programming
  • Other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Director of Career Education directly supervises student workers and graduate assistants.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated professional experience in curriculum development, innovative academic programming, and instructional technology.
  • Knowledge of trends within the field of professional education.
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate data.
  • Collaborative, entrepreneurial, proactive style, with excellent human relations skills.
  • Excellent organizational and planning/project management skills.
  • Detail oriented and deadline driven work ethic.
  • Demonstrated ability to forge and sustain relationships and engage in collaboration.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously within time constraints.
  • Computer literacy with Microsoft suite, Google suite, Adobe suite and technical skills related to at least one of the programs in the Professional Studies realm.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Masters degree required. Masters degree in art/design education preferred.
  • At least two years experience in:
    • higher education teaching and/or professional development training
    • education administration or arts administration
    • budgetary and personnel management

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear.
  • The employee frequently is required to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The noise level in the work environment is moderate.
  • The pace of the work environment is moderate to fast.

COMPENSATION: This position is full-time, exempt.  Compensation is commensurate on experience and qualifications. CCAD offers a benefits package including: vacation time, additional paid time off while the college is closed during winter break, sick time accrual, health and dental insurance, life and disability insurance, 403B retirement contribution, tuition remission, and free admission to the Columbus Museum of Art.
