The FIU College of Communication, Architecture + The Arts (CARTA) provides students with the distinct experience of working closely with an award-winning faculty in nationally ranked accredited programs in the heart of Miami, North Miami, Miami Beach, and Wynwood—four of the country’s most vibrant, diverse, and creative cities. CARTA emphasizes experiential learning, where students learn by doing through art and design studios, performances and productions, a student-run communication agency, and student news bureaus in Miami, New York City and Washington DC. DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNICATION

FIU’s Department of Communication is searching for three (3) full-time, non-tenure earning teaching positions in communication. The Department of Communication is housed in the College of Communication, Architecture, and the Arts (CARTA), and is located in the School of Communication and Journalism (SCJ), an ACEJMC accredited institution. We offer three degrees: A Bachelor of Science in Mass Communication with specialization in Public Relations and Advertising; a Bachelor of Arts in Communication with tracks in Organizational Communication, Art and Performance Studies, or Design Studies; and a Master of Science in Global Strategic Communications. We have over 4,000 students majoring in Communication, and making a difference in their fields.

Candidates with professional and academic experience in various communication specializations are encouraged to apply and should possess the ability to teach courses at the graduate and undergraduate level. POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Assistant Teaching Professors are full-time, nine-month, non-tenure-earning faculty positions. Successful applicants must be able to teach courses offered in face-to-face, online, and/or hybrid delivery methods. One of these positions will have the FIU Modesto Maidique Campus as a primary work location and the other two will have the FIU Biscayne Bay Campus as the primary work location.  However, teaching on any of the university campuses may be necessary.  We seek candidates who are qualified to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, including the following areas of communication:

  • PR Writing
  • Principles of Advertising and/or Public Relations
  • Communication Leadership
  • Creative Concepts
  • Business Communication
  • Global Strategic Communications
  • Social Media Strategy, Management, and Measurement

These positions may also have the added responsibilities of serving as the faculty advisor for the FIU chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA), the student-run communication agency, BOLD, or working closely with College centers such as the Lillian Lodge Kopenhaver Center, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum qualifications include the Master of Arts or a Master of Science Degree in Communication, Public Relations, Advertising or related fields from an accredited university. Teaching experience at the university level is preferred.
