Job Description:

The Financial Aid Assistant reports to the Director of Financial Aid and assists with the administration of federal, state and institutional aid to students. This position performs administrative work involving the processing of student aid applications; advises students on application procedures; and helps to maintain the student information in PowerFAIDS and Jenzabar systems. This person is expected to be empathetic towards students with family, personal or economic crises which may have an impact on financial aid. All student information must be handled in accordance with all federal, state, local and college guidelines.

Supervision Received: Director of Financial Aid

Major responsibilities will include:

?Providing accurate and timely information to students regarding all aspects of the financial aid process.

?Processing student applications for financial aid.

?Working with the Coordinator of Financial Aid and other financial aid staff on individual student eligibility and appeals.

?Monitoring and evaluating satisfactory academic progress of students.

?Maintaining appropriate, accurate documentation via PowerFAIDS system.

?Performs administrative tasks associated with all department activities.

?Maintains professional knowledge and participates in professional development.

?Evening and weekend schedule


Requirements:

Bachelor's degree, and six months experience in financial aid operations; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

?Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and discretion.

?Ability to work independently, and as a strong team member.

?Prior customer service experience.

?All candidates must have legal rights to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications
? Familiarity with working with PowerFAIDS and Jenzabar EX software.
? Knowledge of Return of Title IV Funds (R2T4).
? Excellent attention to detail and ability to handle multiple task in a fast-paced, high volume
environment.
? Work experience in a community college or public university.
? Ability to work with a globally-diverse, multi-lingual, urban student body.
? Knowledge of languages other than English.
