Position Announcement

Reporting to the Vice President of Administrative Affairs, the Chief Information Officer (CIO) has overall responsibility for IT strategic planning, policy, standards, architecture, direction and campus wide IT governance process. The CIO has supervisory responsibility for Information Technology Services, which includes IT Support Services, networking, administrative computing, classroom technology services, university webmaster, learning management systems, and system administration. The CIO also has responsibility for central campus data centers and IT infrastructure services, IT Compliance, and IT security, disaster recovery and other IT projects. Responsibilities

  • Provide technological vision and long-range planning in support of the University’s strategic plan and institutional goals.
  • Responsible for the planning, policy, standards, architecture, direction, and campus-wide IT governance process.
  • Collaborate with administrators, deans, faculty and staff, to learn of current and future needs and to ensure that the department is providing services needed to achieve the overall institutional mission and goals.
  • Manage and guide work related to IT support services, networking, unified communications, administrative computing, classroom technology services, web services, learning management systems, system administration, campus data centers, IT infrastructure services, IT compliance, IT security and disaster recovery.
  • Represent the campus at the state and national level on all relevant IT issues and in organizations such as EDUCAUSE, Westnet, USHE CIOs, UETN, etc.
  • Develop metrics to demonstrate the effectiveness of the DSU IT operation.
  • Assess needs related to IT security; prepare and implement plans to secure IT resources and data against unauthorized access and to protect against loss.
  • Prepare and maintain the IT Disaster Recovery Plan and the IT related components of the University’s Business Continuity Plan.
  • Manage the selection, purchase, installation, integration, maintenance, and ongoing support of the full spectrum University’s technology systems and resources.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related field required; Master’s degree in Business Administration or related field preferred.
  • At least eight years of IT management experience, with progressively greater levels of responsibility, required.
  • An understanding of trends in IT and the impact they have on higher education issues.
  • Experience in managing an organization with significant responsibility for program, budget and personnel.
  • Effectiveness in planning and innovative leadership in the IT field as applied to higher education: strong leadership, interpersonal and administrative skills, etc.
  • Good working knowledge of IT systems, programs, etc.
  • Ability to communicate effectively; ability to exercise human relations skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with students, employees and the public.


Supplemental Information

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: Full-time executive staff position. Annual salary of $120,000+, depending on qualifications & experience. Desired start date of April 2021.
