Position Summary

As a Career Design Consultant you will utilize a Career Community framework to work with faculty/staff, alumni and employer partners to engage students actively in the process of designing their career. You will integrate a range of career education strategies to support students as they navigate major/career decision-making and build skills for success after graduation. Strong interpersonal and active listening skills, oral and written communication skills, and team orientation are essential for success in this position.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide strategic leadership and facilitation of a Career Community partnering with students, alumni, employers and faculty to help students explore and connect with industry interest areas.
  • Coach students 1:1 and in group settings on full range of career development topics including exploratory/transitional students and students preparing for a range of post- graduation options.
  • Utilize strong presentation development and public speaking skills to present career education content.
  • Collaborate with university and external partners to more intentionally integrate career development resulting in post-graduation success.
  • Collaborate with faculty/staff influencers and additional campus partners from both Academic Affairs and Student Life to co-create and deliver career design content and programming.
  • Develop relevant educational content to support Career Community goals and scale career education for students and alumni.
  • Partner with Career Design Center staff members as a part of multi-disciplinary team to support departmental mission and achieve departmental goals.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 2 years of experience or master’s degree or professional certification.
• A diversity of backgrounds will be considered including but not limited to higher education, counseling, college student services, business, management etc.
• Specialized knowledge and demonstrated experience in career coaching, preferably in a higher education setting.
• Strong evidence of high level of presentation development and public speaking skills.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively work with diverse constituents including students, alumni, faculty and employers.
• Strong interpersonal and active listening skills to be applied to 1:1 and group coaching.
• Utilize written communication skills to develop education content to be applied to a variety of communication vehicles (blogs, video, website, emails, etc.) for diverse audiences.
• Ability to multi-task and effectively prioritize multiple projects.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within the department and with external partners.
• An understanding of career and student development theory and its application.
• Openness to learning and utilizing technology to achieve departmental goals.

Preferred Qualifications

• A master’s degree is preferred.
