Reports To: Assistant Vice President, Information Technology

Job Summary

The security analyst is responsible for all desktop, mobile and network security. This position is also responsible for troubleshooting network access, performing risk assessments and implementing network security policies and procedures.

Essential Job Functions and Performance Indicators

Job Responsibilities and Execution

  • Audits systems, monitors network traffic and establishes and maintains security patching
  • Ensures application software is up to date
  • Performs vulnerability and penetration tests across the network and enterprise applications
  • Configures firewalls, antivirus and other network and system security tools
  • Creates network and information security policies, procedures and requirements
  • Develops and implements remediation plans
  • Works with the networking team on network and wireless support
  • Architects and implements secure networks and systems
  • Manages projects related to network and security tools
  • Reviews and recommends the best security products for the university
  • Continually updates and improves the information security stance of the university


Service Excellence

  • Supports the mission of the university and serves as an ambassador of the Q2 culture of service excellence
  • Models, supports and holds others accountable to the university’s values – integrity, dedication, excellence, creativity and teamwork
  • Consults with students, faculty and staff on security best practices
  • Consults on the Information Technology (IT) disaster recovery plans and university’s business continuity plans
  • Collaborates with User Services and Enterprise Systems on best practices for information security assurance in operational and project activities


Communication Teamwork and Collaboration

  • Creates security training programs for students, faculty and staff
  • Works to communicate across the university on security best practices
  • Consults and works closely with the networking and systems team, user services and enterprise systems


Job may require other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications – An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered. Additional requirements may be designated by position.

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience with IT

  • Advanced knowledge of how IT processes can be leveraged to assist the university in upholding its mission
