The Director of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving reports to the Vice Chancellor for Advancement. The Director leads the efforts for the University’s alumni programs that promote meaningful volunteerism and personal/professional development that lead to loyalty, dedication, and philanthropic support for University of North Carolina Pembroke. The Director is responsible for the purposeful communication with, and solicitation of, all alumni via the annual appeal giving programs.

The Director of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving’s specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Direct the annual appeal portion of UNCP Advancement fundraising work, raising significant support for the UNCP Student Aid Annual Fund and growing the alumni participation percentage to recordbreaking levels. Includes personal fundraising goals and individual solicitation.

• Serve as primary liaison for the UNCP Alumni Association Board of Directors, collaborating with volunteer leaders to support their initiatives, attend and staff meetings, and create a productive working relationship.

• Manage an annual Homecoming/Reunion with key partners across campus that is reflective of the University’s brand and advances UNCP’s long-term fundraising capacity.

• Develops close working relationship with advancement services to ensure alumni records are current in order to locate and connect with UNCP’s key constituents.

• Create robust collaboration with UNCP’s Office of Career Services to identify content experts, secure mentors, and promote career service content throughout the alumni base.

• Collaborate daily with University Communications and Marketing (UCM) to curate content relevant to alumni, develop multi-channel communication and cultivation strategies.

• Identify and refer regularly qualified new major gift prospects to the Advancement process via alumni programming and an annual giving program with a significant emphasis on donor retention and elevation.

• Exemplify the values of University of North Carolina Pembroke in every dimension of professional work and serve as a key external brand ambassador.

• Contribute to a culture that rewards best practices of professional higher education advancement and major gift fund-raising.

• Ensures the University becomes and remains a leader among its peers in the areas of alumni and annual fund development as well as the application of industry best practices, customized to the characteristics of the UNC Pembroke campus.

Minimum Training and Experience Requirements:  Master’s degree strongly preferred or a bachelor’s degree with successful experience in development, sales, or any position which requires developing and maintaining relationships. Other skills necessary: ability to understand the needs and interests of university leadership and donor prospects in order to create lasting partnerships; interest in all aspects of education and a dedication to promoting UNCP’s fundraising priorities by developing excellent relationships with faculty, senior academic leaders, trustees, volunteers, and the advancement office team; demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to successfully manage multiple assignments; successful experience in developing strategies to accomplish goals; must have excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated record of completing assignments; must be willing to travel.

Management Preferences:  

The Director of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving must possess core knowledge and success with fundraising program creation, volunteer/Board service, professional communication and collaboration. Knowledge of higher education advancement methods and principles is strongly preferred.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree and possess a track record of significant professional performance spanning 5-7 years. Demonstrated experience and success in a metrics-driven professional area is required.
