Faculty Position in Design Management

Visiting or Regular Assistant Professor Rank

The College of Architecture, Art and Design (CAAD) at the American University of Sharjah (AUS) invites applications for a regular or visiting faculty position—at the assistant professor level—in the Department of Art and Design. The position provides an opportunity to contribute to a dynamic and diverse learning environment with students close to 100 countries. CAAD has established a reputation as a leader in design education in the region and graduates have gone on to study at top graduate programs and have established themselves as experts in creative industries across the region.

All positions come with a competitive salary and an attractive benefits package inclusive of free housing and generous retirement contribution along with funding for annual return airfare, school tuition for dependents, and health insurance. Successful candidates are expected to assume duties in August 2021.

The successful candidate will primarily teach courses in the Bachelor of Science in Design Management program. A PhD or MFA in Design Management or a related area is required along with a strong design ability as well as significant academic and professional experience. Candidates may also teach courses in visual communication, research, strategy, and professional practice. Candidates should have expertise in one or more of the following areas: design management, design research, design thinking, strategic design, user-centered design, strategic communication, storytelling, innovation, entrepreneurship, and service design.

In addition to teaching, faculty are required to mentor students, engage in scholarly activities (which can include creative work, research, or both) and participate in service activities for the college, university, and community. Scholarship and research are important for the department and the university. Successful candidates will not only have access to excellent research opportunities but also generous financial support from the university to develop their scholarship. Applicants should have an excellent record of teaching and scholarship from a reputable university or the potential for developing such a record.

Interested applicants should submit 1.) a letter of application that describes the fit with this position description and provides the names and contact information of three referees, 2.) curriculum vitae, and 3.) a digital portfolio of scholarly/professional/teaching activities (as a single PDF file, not exceeding 50 pages, that can be downloaded without a password from Google Drive, Dropbox, or other file sharing facility).
