Primary Purpose of Position:
The Assistant Vice Chancellor for Development works closely with university senior administrators, department leadership and advancement colleagues to raise the necessary support for identified priorities. He/she manages a portfolio of approximately 70-90 prospects, creates fundraising strategies for those prospects, develops relationships with donors, solicits gifts primarily in excess of $25,000, and coordinates effective donor stewardship. The Assistant VC provides leadership and strategic guidance to a 5-7 director of development fundraising staff. This position reports to the Vice Chancellor for Institutional Advancement, and serves as a member of the senior leadership team.


Minimum Education/Experience:
Master’s degree required. Minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible development experience, with success as both a manager and frontline fundraiser, ideally in a higher education setting. Travel required; some evenings and weekends required


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Proven ability to provide leadership, management, and strategic direction for staff and fundraising goals.
Must possess a leadership style that creates strong teams who are motivated and focused on achieving goals.
Demonstrated success as a major gift and principal gift fundraiser.
Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skill.
Possesses a thorough understanding of the spectrum of fundraising programs, including annual giving, planned/deferred giving, capital campaigns, and individual, corporate, and foundation gifts.

A demonstrated ability to manage details, efficient work habits, and flexibility. Outstanding organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
