Assistant Professor (WOT) Neuromuscular Disorders Research

The Department of Neurology at the University of Washington School of Medicine is seeking an outstanding research scientist to join the Wellstone Muscular Dystrophy Research Center, headed by Dr. JS Chamberlain.  The successful applicant is expected to establish an independent research program focused on developing genetic treatments for the muscular dystrophies or related neuromuscular disorders.  The Wellstone Center currently has approximately 12 full-time faculty members leading various programs on neuromuscular disease therapeutics.  All members of the Center work closely together and have access to a Viral Vector Core lab as well numerous other state-of-the-art Core facilities for imaging, sequencing, gene expression and animal care.  This is is a full-time, 12-month service period appointment, at the Assistant Professor (without tenure) rank with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2021. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service.

Requirements include a PhD, with or without an MD/DO, or a foreign equivalent degree, with a track record of research in the area of gene therapy or gene editing with a focus on neuromuscular disorders.  The applicant should have extensive experience with using AAV vectors, molecular biology and gene editing.  Physician/scientist applicants must show eligibility for medical licensure in the State of Washington, and certification or eligibility for certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Neurology or an equivalent subspecialty board, and will have completed a 3 year or more post-doctoral fellowship focused on Molecular Biology or Molecular Genetics lab-based research.  This position is intended for full-time research without clinical responsibilities.

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
