The University of Alaska Anchorage invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. Reporting directly to the Provost, the next dean will provide leadership to the largest college in the University. The dean is expected to assume office in summer 2021.

Home to more than 200 dedicated faculty members, CAS serves more than 8,500 students each semester in 37 different undergraduate degree programs, as well as master's and Ph.D. programs. CAS offerings include degree programs that prepare professionals to fill high demand jobs in Alaska in biology, chemistry, geology, anthropology, psychology, education, journalism and mass media; and critical courses in science and mathematics for students preparing for careers in other high-demand areas such as engineering, nursing and other health occupations. The School of Education has recently been added the College. CAS is also a growing center of research, scholarship, and creativity; and, with grants from the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, National Endowment for the Humanities and other funding agencies, has doubled its research funding approximately every seven years. In addition, CAS takes pride in its many partnerships with agencies and institutions throughout the state.

The Dean is assisted by an administrative team of three Associate Deans, three department and school directors, and the Director of Finance and Operations, Human Resources Director, and Senior Academic Manager. Also reporting directly to the Dean are two institutes: the Environmental and Natural Resources Institute and the Alaskan Center for Conservation Science.

The new Dean of CAS, a critical leader within the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA), has the opportunity to influence and participate in statewide policy for higher education and overall quality of life affecting all Alaskans.
