Founding Program Director and Associate Professor - Doctorof Physical Therapy Program (DPT)

 

Hofstra University, in partnership with the national search firm Scott Healy & Associates, is pleased to announce the launching of a Doctor of Physical Therapy Program (DPT) and invites applications and nominations for the full-time, tenure-track position of Founding Program Director and Associate Professor. The Director of the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program (DPT) is responsible for developing and implementing the program, including curriculum development, facility renovation, equipment acquisition, and faculty and staff recruitment and hiring, as well as teaching and scholarly responsibilities. The director is also responsible for attaining and maintaining CAPTE accreditation. The director will pursue academic excellence within the program by providing program leadership, promoting the program and enhancing its visibility, assisting with recruiting and retaining students, and managing the day-to-day logistics of the program.

 

The Program:

The Doctor of Physical Therapy Program (DPT) is being designed to meet accreditation standards established by CAPTE. The focus of this holistic program is to train physical therapists who demonstrate service, leadership and fundamentals of empathetic care within the profession of physical therapy, within their community, and with their patients.

Qualifications:

Candidates for the position of Associate Professor and Program Director will possess the following:

  • An earned academic doctoral degree from an accredited university (i.e., PhD, EdD, DSc);
  • A PT License in the US with Board Certification in PT, and either a NY State license or eligibility for physical therapy licensure in New York state;
  • Qualifications for appointment to the rank of associate professor or higher;
  • A minimum of 6 years of full-time higher education experience, with a minimum of 3 years of full-time experience in a CAPTE-accredited physical therapist education program;
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience with physical therapy accreditation criteria (CAPTE) and state agency regulations, and familiarity with the details of clinical education and practicum site establishment;
  • Administrative experience in academic program planning and implementation, personnel management, program assessment, and fiscal management processes;
  • Demonstrated record of excellence in teaching, scholarship, service and research/scholarship.
