Summary:

Th e Senior Academic Advisor facilitates the Division’s enrollment, retention, and graduation goals by establishing and maintaining effective communication with students through proactive advising outreach and student support. The Senior Academic Advisor also collaborates to develop and improve student onboarding, communication, outreach, and student support initiatives and to assist matriculated students in connecting with appropriate institutional resources to facilitate the achievement of their academic, personal, and professional goals.

The Senior Academic Advisor will serve as the coordinator/liaison for graduate advising to one or more colleges (dual-advising model) or will maintain a primary-role advising caseload of undergraduate students in one or more majors.

Duties:

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide guidance and assistance to OASIS staff in support of students in Rowan Global degree and certificate programs.
  • Assist the OASIS Director with advisor training, establishment of advising and student support protocols, master schedules, faculty/student communications, and business processes; will also perform leadership duties within the unit, as assigned.
  • Participate in monitoring of workload of all advisors in the unit and make recommendations about necessary adjustments to the OASIS Director.
  • Serve as liaison for the advising area (e.g., academic program, department, or college) to the Director of OASIS, the Department Chair/Head, and other faculty and administrative units as appropriate.
  • Assist with new student orientations and recruitment activities, as needed.
  • Develop advising materials and presentations to support individual and group advising sessions for various sites/modes of delivery.
  • Advise students about academic requirements and selection of courses via individual and group sessions (virtually and face-to-face).
  • Provide guidance to students on relevant institutional policies and procedures.
  • Stay abreast of institutional information including admissions requirements, academic programs, course changes, deadlines, important dates, costs, expanding facilities, updates in college-wide initiatives, transfer requirements, and state and federal mandates.
  • Understand the institution’s interpretation of FERPA rules for the release of student information to faculty, families, students, etc.
  • Review and interpret placement and other standardized test scores, unofficial transcripts, prior learning assessment measures, and course prerequisites.
  • Refer students to the appropriate specialized staff for services such as tutoring, testing, counseling, disability resources, financial assistance, study abroad, etc.
  • Provide life stage-appropriate career advising and referrals to career advancement resources.
  • Maintain accurate records (including electronic notes) of interactions with students.
  • Produce/maintain timely and accurate enrollment reports for assigned programs.
  • Review and/or approve students’ graduation applications as determined by agreement with academic departments.
  • Participate in institutional student development and retention programs.
  • Collaborate on the expanded use of RSN/Starfish and the development of dashboards and reports to support student outreach and retention initiatives, including but not limited to academic progress review (warning, probation, dismissal).
  • Produce and use data and reports regarding academic progress issues for assessment purposes and for monitoring student progress and outreach.
  • Review and, as appropriate, address problematic academic progress issues, interactions with families, student complaints, etc., prior to escalation to the Director.
  • Assist with the development of communications (e.g., newsletters, social media) and events to support the needs of a primarily non-residential, post-traditional student population.
  • Engage in professional development activities, including but not limited to memberships in professional organizations; attendance at conferences and workshops; participation in technology training sessions (e.g., Banner, Starfish, Slate); and engagement in University-sponsored professional development activities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Travel to other campuses, including for evening and weekend events, as required.
  • Understand that primary responsibilities and/or office location may be subject to change as programs offered through Rowan Global expand and evolve.


Required Qualifications :

  • Three (3) years of professional experience (preferably working with students in a post-secondary educational institution or other appropriate educational setting)
  • Master’s degree (preferably in Higher Education or other appropriate educational setting, working directly with students)


Desired

  • 5+ years of experience advising across a range of liberal arts and professional curricula.
  • Experience as an online academic advisor or instructor at the college level.
  • Significant experience working with adult, community college, and/or transfer students.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of NACADA Advising Core Competencies.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and student information systems (e.g., Banner, Colleague).
  • Proven data management and interpretation skills.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Superior customer service skills.
  • Flexibility, creativity, and passion for student success.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
