Job Summary
The Department of Mathematics at Columbus State University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 2021. We seek candidates with a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and research with the potential to make significant contributions to undergraduate research and the Mathematical and Data Sciences programs.
Responsibilities
The position will include a workload of teaching 12 hours per semester of Mathematics and Data Science courses at undergraduate levels, research and scholarship, academic advising, service for the department and for the University. The selected candidate will join a group of 16 full-time faculty members in the department including mathematicians, statisticians, and mathematics educators. The department offers baccalaureate degrees in mathematics, mathematics and secondary education, and applied mathematics; we are also committed to maintaining a proactive role in the mathematical preparation of K-12 teachers and are establishing a BS Program in Applied Mathematical Sciences with Data Science and Actuarial Science concentrations. Collaborative efforts between math, science, and education faculty recently led to the funding of two major grants (a UTeach replication grant worth up to $1.4 million and a Noyce Scholarship grant worth approximately $1.2 million).
Required Qualifications
Candidates should have an earned doctorate in Applied Mathematics with research interest in Data Science, or an earned doctorate in Data Science field with strong foundation in Mathematics or closely related field from a regionally accredited institution by August 1, 2021; excellent written and oral communication skills; a demonstrated potential for outstanding teaching at all levels; excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills; and sustainable research and publication plans.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference may be given to candidates who demonstrate knowledge and experience in Data Science and Actuarial Science.
