The Institute for Veterans and Military Families’ ( IVMF ) research and analytics (R&A) team is seeking an experienced business intelligence/data warehouse developer interested in joining our rapidly growing team as we roll out an enterprise data warehouse. The BI/DW developer will work collaboratively with subject matter experts across the IVMF to provide enterprise-wide expertise in data management and analytics. This position will establish data management processes, develop data integrations, implement data access and security protocols, and develop dashboards and reports.

The BI/DW developer will design, build, and develop data integration solutions using a suite of SAS tools. Responsibilities include supporting, maintaining, improving existing data solutions, coding new ETL interfaces, and developing and maintaining data visualizations.

This position requires initiative, independence, drive, and the ability to work successfully in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with the ability to perform a wide variety of responsibilities. Strong communication skills are an asset that will be helpful while working closely with various teams across the institute.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, relevant field or combination of equivalent education and experience.

• Three (3) plus years of data integration and development experience.

• Experience and /or training in SQL, Stored Procedures, SAS Data Integration Studio, SAS Data Management Studio, SAS Enterprise Guide, data warehousing, SQL Server/Oracle management.

• Experience in data modeling.

Job Specific Qualifications

• Expertise in developing legible and well-structured scripts and queries in SQL .

• Experience working with large data repositories and/or relational databases.

• Experience as an ETL developer with strong data architecture knowledge around data warehousing concepts, SQL development and optimization, and operational support models.

• Knowledge of SAS tools would be a plus.

• Strong aptitude to learn and adapt to technology.

• Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously with minimal supervision.

• Highly self-motivated and directed with keen attention to detail.

• Candidates must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Positive customer-service mindset.

• Ability to work collaboratively in dynamic team environment.

• Preference given to those with a military service connection, or who have worked with veteran, military, and/or family stakeholders, universities or think-tanks, and familiarity with related government programs and services for veterans, families, and related civilian human services programs.

Responsibilities

• Thoroughly understand and support existing infrastructure of data/databases.

• Translate business needs, processes, and requirements into optimized data solutions.

• Use suite of SAS tools, programming best practices, and departmental standards to design and develop integration solutions.

• Monitor performance of existing data jobs and address issues to ensure scalability.

• Monitor routine data loads and ensure they are successful.

• Investigate data quality issues and implement appropriate solutions.

• Design solutions to be optimal for reporting, analytics, and dashboards.

• Gather requirements for data design, storage, and management.

• Manage the technical documentation for all code, data definitions, dashboards, and data management applications.

• Manage individual priorities and coordinates with other teams to meet timelines.

• Assist in ongoing development of technical best practices for data integration, data quality, data cleansing and other ETL related activities.

• Provide support to production systems.

• Maintain status and resolution updates per team standard or as requested.

• Maintain proficiency in current data warehouse development platforms, languages, and integration method.

• Research new developments in data warehouse technology. Work with Data Solutions team to possibly implement and leverage the new and changing technology.

• Provide Institute-wide support and training to users of the self-service tools.

• Guide temporary staff and students in their support to the IVMF as they learn our tools and processes.
