Position Title Medical Laboratory Technician Program Coordinator FLSA Exempt Contract Length N/A Class Summary
The Allied Health Department is seeking a full time temporary Medical Laboratory Technician program coordinator who will be responsible for developing curricula and coursework for our new Medical Laboratory Technician Associate Degree program and once active, possibly providing quality instruction within the MLT and allied programs as qualified. In addition, the coordinator will be responsible for providing scheduled office hours for student consultation, serve on College committees as needed and assigned, and participating in student orientated instructional and advisement activities as needed and assigned.

Master’s degree and 18 graduate hours of coursework in Science or related area.
Three years of teaching experience
Preferred Education/Training/Experience
Doctorate degree in Science or related area. Teaching experience in MLT courses at a community or two-year college.
Minimum Knowledge & Skills
Ability to develop MLT courses and curricula and effectively teach MLT courses
Knowledge of education methods and administration as well as current National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences ( NAACLS ) accreditation procedures and certification procedures
Working knowledge of American Society for Clinical Pathology ( ASCP ) and Texas Higher Education Coordinator Board standards
Preferred Knowledge & Skills
Demonstrable history of MLT course and curricula development and instruction; experience teaching in a 2-year college environment
Experience in the NAACLS accreditation or re-accreditation process
Knowledge of online and/or hybrid teaching formats.
Experience using simulation aids for laboratory experience.
Job Duties
- Prepare, develop, revise curriculum and course work. Meet classes as scheduled. Complete paperwork/tests and issue student grades as scheduled. Maintain office hours for student consultation
-Establish an advisory board
-Responsible for the organization, administration, instruction, evaluation, continuous quality improvement, curriculum planning and development, directing other program faculty/staff, and general effectiveness of the program
-Engage in a minimum of 36 hours of documented continuing professional development every 3 years
-Pursue, achieve, and maintain NAACLS accreditation of the program
-Responsible for organization, administration, continuous review, planning, development, and general effectiveness of clinical experiences for students enrolled in the MLT program
-This position will initially report to the Director of Program Development and is responsible for performing tasks and assignments given by the Director. Other duties as appropriate to the position.
Licensing/Certification Requirements
Holds ASCP - BOC or ASCP BOC generalist certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist.
Physical Requirements
Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and seeing. Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
