Senior Systems Administrator

The Department of Radiation Oncology is seeking a Senior Systems Administrator who will be responsible for independently planning and leading the processes of introducing new and upgraded computer hardware and software systems in close collaboration with the end-users, vendors, and HCIS. This position will work closely with one system administrator to configure, manage, and maintain computer hardware and software systems in Radiation Oncology. Responsibility will be to independently design, install, maintain, organize, integrate, and consolidate departmental servers and scripts used with enterprise software. They will also independently perform routine and advanced administrative tasks in a complex multi-server environment. Responsible for developing and implementing programs for system integrity, disaster recovery, business continuity, backup, security, and ensuring compliance with HCIS requirements.

This posiiton will execute complex tasks requiring an understanding of computer and software system organization and integration, computer programming, logical thinking, and the use of system software tools. Engagement with users involving leading computer hardware and software implementation projects with the Radiation Oncology team and HCIS, response to trouble calls, recommend solutions and/or dispatch problems to the appropriate party for resolution and following through to completion. This position will have the capability to assess the needs of end-users, assess potential solutions, and formulate, communicate, and execute a plan to reach the solution. Duties may require direct technical management and mentoring. Other characteristic duties and responsibilites include the following:

• Plan and lead the processes of introducing new and upgraded computer hardware and software systems as they relate to Elekta Mosaiq, Philips Pinnacle, Elekta Monaco, Candelis ImageGrid, Elekta GammaPlan, Varian Velocity, and other enterprise software applications in the Department.
• Plan and lead the processes of integrating and upgrading the computer-based components of radiation therapy delivery systems and imaging systems with other computer resources in the Department.
• Write, edit, and optimize computer programs for coding efficiency, completeness, and correctness.
• Configure, maintain, and manage the computer hardware and software systems in the Department.
• Design, implement, and maintain the system administration program involving backups and preventive maintenance on applicable servers, workstations and enterprise software platforms.
• Advance the IT service within the Department through continuous improvement including the upgrade and consolidation of systems such as servers that require renewal every several years.
• Develop and implement programs for system integrity, disaster recovery, business continuity, backup, security, and ensure compliance with HCIS requirements.
• Ensure HIPAA-compliant data security for patient records, often working closely with the clinical trials team.
• Address integration needs between software, including between Epic and Mosaiq.
• Develop test data and test routines for entire systems and individual programs.
• Design and implement major systems, including data storage structures, communications requirements, and specialized language requirements.
• Prepare detailed written specification and documentation for complex programs and educate users in system use and functionality.
• Provide on-call IT coverage for the Department as shared with a systems administrator.
• Analyze, monitor, and report financial and operational data, information, and reports.
• Provide hardware and software application support for departmental computer users.
• Evaluate and certify anonymized and codified patient data.
• Act as a liaison between Department of Radiation Oncology and HCIS.
• Other duties as assigned.

Supervision and direction received from Medical Physics Division Director.

Required Qualifications

• A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Computer Science or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Availability to provide on-call support as shared with a systems administrator.
• Three or more years of experience providing desktop support and customer service to technical and non-technical staff.
• Three or more years of experience in a systems administrator or equivalent position.

Desirable Qualifications

• Computer programming proficiency with a high-level language such as C, Java, C#, or Python.
• Knowledge of Mosaiq and other software applications used in Radiation Oncology.
• Experience implementing and ensuring secure systems in a healthcare environment.
• Experience with database server administration.
