Applications are invited for appointment as Post-doctoral Fellow in Social Determinants of Health in the Faculty of Social Sciences (Ref.: 502890), to commence on July 1, 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter for three years, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in social epidemiology, public health or a relevant discipline, with experience in conducting quantitative longitudinal social science research in social epidemiology or public health. Applicants are essential to demonstrate ability to produce world-class research as well as to hold a good publication record in high impact journals. They should have a high level of competency in using statistical software package with evidence of working collaboratively across organisational boundaries and with other disciplines. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills are expected.

The appointee will conduct research in the broad area of social epidemiology and/or the social determinants of health. The specific topic areas will include understanding the determinants of social inequalities in health through the role of social and healthcare factors such as social capital and the role of life course and ageing processes, etc. The appointee is expected to analyse relevant longitudinal datasets to develop an empirical understanding of how social factors influence health outcomes over the life course and contribute to relevant theories on the social determinants of health. He/She will also support the Faculty on improving the teaching of quantitative methods at all levels and provide support for researchers in cutting-edge quantitative methods to help improve research quality.
