POSITION DETAILS

Who We Are

There is a continuing shortage of primary care physicians in this country, creating an urgent need for more family practitioners, general internists, pediatricians and obstetrician/gynecologists in many communities. The shortage of African-American, Latinx, and other underrepresented medical professionals in inner city areas is particularly acute. Over forty years ago, The City College of New York decided to make a difference by developing the most unique physician training program in the nation, The Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education, which in the fall of 2015 became The CUNY School of Medicine. The programs at the CUNY School of Medicine include a unique 7-year combined BS-MD program and a 28-month masters program in physician assistant studies which, since their founding, have shared a social mission: to recruit underrepresented minorities into medicine, increase medical services in historically underserved areas, and increase the availability of primary care physicians and physician assistants.

The CUNY School of Medicine (CSOM) seeks candidates whose research, teaching and/or service has prepared them to contribute to this mission. The School values diversity and inclusion and believes these are essential to achieving excellence.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

Since its founding in 1847 to serve children of the working class and immigrants, The City College of New York (CCNY) has been a primary avenue of advancement for generations of New Yorkers. More than a traditional urban college, The City College is a microcosm of New York City, with one of the most diverse student bodies of any college in America; over half of its 15,200 students were born abroad.

The CUNY School of Medicine is located at, and is an integral part of, The City College of New York – a senior college of The City University of New York (CUNY), at its campus in central Harlem. The School of Medicine provides educational opportunities for students with limited financial means and has an established track record of success in matriculating students from communities that have been historically underrepresented in medicine into its professional tracks. The City College of New York seeks a dynamic, visionary and inspirational medical education leader, noted for personal and professional integrity, to inspire students, work collaboratively with the faculty, engage its distinguished alumni and the local community, and guide the CUNY School of Medicine to higher levels of achievement and distinction.
