Research Assistant II -Cancer Metabolism
The goal of the Yun lab is to identify dietary factors that can affect tumorigenesis and understand the molecular basis for the relationship between diet and colorectal cancer using preclinical model systems. Toward this end, we will use genetically engineered mouse models (GEMM), ex-vivo 3D organoid co-culture systems, and patient or mouse-derived organoid transplantation models. Furthermore, we have the integrative and systematic '-omics' approaches using state-of-the-art techniques such as metabolomics and next-generation sequencing. Ultimately, we seek to develop and discover novel strategies to prevent and treat colorectal cancer and other types of cancer by understanding the role of diet in cancer, which we believe can have a positive impact on society directly and immediately.
The primary role of this position will be carrying out studies involving mouse experiments including survival surgery, and administrating drugs in mouse via IV, IP or gavaging and various molecular and cellular works by working independently and working together with Principal Investigator and postdoctoral associates. The person should have the ability to interpret and analyze the data at least the basic level and learn things fast to become more independent as time goes on. The area of research is to understand the interrelationship between diet, microbiome, and cancer metabolism.
The successful candidate will be detail oriented, self-motivated, a fast learner and possess excellent time management, organizational, written and verbal communication skills. Above all, the candidate should be honest, considerate and reliable.
- Perform many molecular, biochemical and cellular experiments and analyze the data independently.
- Confer with Principal Investigator (PI) and other lab members to plan and execute complex experiments.
- Maintain necessary inventory of supplies and reagents required for experiments.
- Accurately document experiments to ensure that work can be replicated by others. Collect, analyze, compile, interpret and evaluate research results and report progress to PI.
- Prepares and conducts laboratory research experiments regarding mouse and cell line models under the supervision of PI and/or postdoc
- Mouse experiments including survival surgery, and administrating drugs in mice via IV, IP or gavaging.
- Collects, compiles, and analyzes data. This includes, but is not limited to, collecting tissue from mice, extracting RNA and Protein, performing qPCR, WB and IHC on these tissues.
- Analyzes the results and prepares for lab meeting presentations.
- May teach some experimental techniques to rotation students and summer undergraduate students, etc.
- Will receive high quality scientific trainings from PI and lab members.
- Becomes co-authors in high-profile journals such as Science and Nature.
- Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field.
- Three years of relevant experience.
- Master's degree in a related field.
- Basic molecular and cell culture research experiences.
- Good knowledge of basic concept of biology and genetics.
- Experiences with mouse, organoids and immunology are preferred, but not required.
