Position Summary:

The Departmental Support Assistant Director leads the operational, financial, and personnel activities of the User Services Departmental Support group within the Division of Information Technology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The Assistant Director works closely and collaboratively with campus departments, IT partners, DoIT colleagues, and the Director of User Services to offer sustainable and relevant IT services to campus. Departmental Support is a cost-recovery group, providing general services such as end-user desktop support, hardware purchasing, and computer lifecycle management for campus clients. Specialized services include enterprise endpoint management, campus InfoLabs program facilitation, and endpoint security compliance with national standards such as PCI and FISMA.

Reporting to the Director of User Services, the Assistant Director will oversee the evolution of Departmental Support, focusing on modern desktop management strategies, modern infrastructure, data-informed decision making, and operational effectiveness. The position is responsible for building campus customer relationships, managing client contracts, managing group resources to meet established SLA's, metrics and benchmarking, budget management, providing direction and guidance regarding daily operations, technical planning, program and project management, and managing IT professionals.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Bachelor's degree preferred

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Required
* Minimum of five years of experience delivering IT services in a large/complex environment
* Experience leading, mentoring, and coaching staff
* Experience collaborating across organizational boundaries to build consensus and partnerships
* Experience using metrics to inform decisions and improve outcomes
* A demonstrated commitment to outstanding customer service

Preferred
* Experience preparing and managing budgets
* Experience with service management tools such as Cherwell, ServiceNow, JIRA, or others.
* Knowledge of project management practices and techniques.
* Management experience with HR authority.

Additional Information:

The candidate selected for this position will initially perform a combination of on-site and remote work subject to an approved telecommuting agreement, which is reviewed and approved annually. Remote work requires successful candidates to possess their own high-speed internet and phone to perform the work on a University provided computer.
