Assistant Professor of Conflict Management

School of Conflict Management, Peacebuilding and Development


Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for a nine-month, tenure track assistant professor faculty position in the School of Conflict Management, Peacebuilding and Development (SCMPD) to begin August 2021.


The successful applicant will have documented evidence of teaching excellence and will maintain a productive research program that can successfully compete for external funding. Strong scholarship, along with a commitment to excellence in teaching and engagement, is expected of all faculty members in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at KSU. Faculty in SCMPD teach in a variety of modalities, including face-to-face, hybrid, and online.



  • Develop and teach graduate level classes in the field of international development as it relates to conflict management and peacebuilding
  • Policy relevant research focus at the intersection of peace, security and development; practitioner experience desired
  • Ability to teach quantitative methods (required) and qualitative methods (desired)
  • A strong preference will be given to candidates who are also able to teach critical and socio-cultural perspectives on conflict and peace (gender, post-structural, feminist, environmental, etc.)


The candidate will teach a 3-2 load comprised of graduate classes in the SCMPD and undergraduate classes in the candidate’s home discipline and any other relevant departments as befits the candidate’s fields of expertise.


The candidate will be expected to supervise Ph.D. dissertations and serve on dissertation committees as well as supervise master’s theses as needed.

An earned Ph.D. in a field relevant to Peace, Security and Development, or its foreign equivalent, is required by August 1, 2021, as well as a record of effective university teaching at the graduate level and demonstrated potential for research.


Preferred qualifications include:


  • Policy-relevant or Practitioner experience
  • Quantitative research skills
  • Qualitative research skills
  • Evidence of teaching and working with a culturally and an ethnically diverse community
  • Experience teaching on-line and/or hybrid courses
  • Record of graduate teaching
  • Record of grant-seeking activity
