About the Opportunity:
Mona Minkara, Assistant Professor in the Department of Bioengineering in the College of Engineering, is seeking a Science Access Writer. The Science Access Writer is responsible for writing, creating, revising, and coordinating all technical documents, including publications, grant proposals, and presentations, for a blind professor in the field of bioengineering. Responsibilities:
This role includes responsibilities of both a technical writer and accessibility specialist. The Science Access Writer will assist in the research of complex scientific information and all stages of technical writing, from conception to publication. This position requires the ability to effectively communicate information and research findings to the professor in addition to general audiences.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing or a scientific discipline required.
  • 4 - 6 years related experience
  • Experience in technical proposal and publication writing is required
  • Previous experience describing and communicating complex visual information to visually impaired/ blind individuals is preferred.
  • Experience with primary literature searching and reviewing
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills
  • In-depth knowledge of English grammar, scientific writing styles, and reference formats (ACS, APA, Chicago)
  • In-depth knowledge of the process of inserting alternative text (alt-texting)
  • Experience with LaTEX and Adobe Creative Suite preferred
