Overview

Employment Status: Permanent / Probationary & Temporary "non-exempt" positions (with the possibility of the full-time positions converting to probationary)

Work Schedule: To be arranged.

Typical Activities

The Police Officer is assigned to patrol the campus on foot and/or by vehicle, protect lives and property, write clear and concise reports, and enforce penal and Vehicle Code violations. The incumbent will apprehend and arrest violators, appear in court when necessary, provide security for large gatherings, assemblies or other campus activities, and may conduct investigations relative to assigned cases. The incumbent may be required to perform additional duties, which enhance the safety and security of the campus Community. CSUSB places significant importance on Community Partnerships and Community Oriented Problem Solving.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must be able to meet all employment standards set by P.O.S.T. and CSU. Applicants must possess the equivalent to a high school diploma. Applicants must possess a working knowledge of public safety, law enforcement methods, crime prevention, and have completed a P.O.S.T. approved academy or is currently in possession of a P.O.S.T Certificate. Applicants must possess the ability to assess law enforcement or other hazardous situations and determine an appropriate course of action, along with the ability to maintain a cooperative working relationship with the general campus community.

A valid California Driver's License is a requirement of this position.

A Hepatitis B Virus vaccination is available on a voluntary basis upon employment.

Supplemental Information
The recruitment process may include any of the following: written examination, oral interview, physical agility examination, and/or Chief's interview prior to any conditional offer of employment.

The successful candidate is required to complete a POST background check, physical examination and psychological examination, prior to assuming this position.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position.

The person holding this position may be considered a limited or general mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
