About the Opportunity:
Northeastern University's Information System (IS) Program is seeking to fill an Associate Director/Teaching Faculty role that will be located on our Seattle, WA campus. In this role, the Associate Director/Teaching Faculty will work closely with the College of Engineering Senior Management team. The selected candidate's duties will be divide amongst instruction, program facilitation, and program development. The selected candidate is expected to teach, advise, develop, and implement course schedules, as well as identify new and industry trending subjects for curriculum advancement. Additionally, the Associate Director/Teaching Faculty will oversee and manage various administrative functions of the program.

Candidates should be committed to fostering diverse and inclusive environments as well as to promoting experiential learning. The ideal candidate for this role will have a terminal credential in a related engineering field, 10+ years of experience in either higher education and/or a relevant engineering field, experience with academic programs and diverse student populations, and a demonstrated ability to problem solve and manage multiple responsibilities concurrently. Preference will be given to candidates with both a combination of academic and industry experience. Responsibilities:
The duties associated with this role include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Develop plans to achieve programmatic goals and implement solutions specific to the underlying regional campus programs
  • Instruct and prepare students to improve relevance, rigor, and quality through teachings and course offerings
  • Assist in the student recruitment and management of the programs delivered at the Seattle Campus
  • Implement a program improvement process via measurement and feedback
  • Work in coordination with other units in the college and the Registrar's Office to schedule courses that meet the needs of students and related programs
  • Market, recruit, and manage other public relations activities for programs
  • Contribute to the recruitment and hiring of full-time and part-time faculty
  • Develop and implement programs to enhance the quality of the student experience: manage processes, outreach, content, and finances
  • Manage course development related to coordination and administrative functions
  • Work to define and enforce policies and procedures associated with the supported programs
  • Counsels students on academic advising and other academic matters
  • Responds to teacher and student inquiries
  • Oversee and manage regional administrative staff
  • Interpret and communicate local and University policies and procedures for students, Faculty, and staff
  • And other duties as required


Successful candidates will be expected to teach six core or elective courses per year in the MS program in Information Systems. A reduced load will be negotiated to take on more administrative responsibility.

Qualifications:
A PhD in a related engineering field is required by the appointment start date The ideal candidate for this role will have a terminal credential in a related engineering field, 10+ years of experience in either higher education and/or a relevant engineering field, experience with academic programs and diverse student populations, and a demonstrated ability to problem solve and manage multiple responsibilities concurrently. We are seeking an experienced professional, capable of independently leading program development, management, and performing a diverse range of academic support and management functions. A preferred candidate will have experience with: academic program design; managerial principles and practices; program planning principles; program coordination principles, practices, and techniques; troubleshooting and solving complex program issues; diverse populations and cultures. The ideal candidate will also have relevant industry experience and/or research program in the following areas such as: software engineering, algorithm design and analysis, machine learning/AI, application engineering, cloud technologies, Blockchain, Big Data technologies/platforms, and other.

The position is new and it requires leadership, initiative, innovation, problem-solving skills and the ability to make independent judgements. A demonstrated ability to handle multiple responsibilities concurrently, work independently in a fast-paced and dynamic environment and experience in working with international students are required of the position.

Additionally, a demonstrated ability or potential for teaching excellence is required, but we will consider fresh PhDs. Rank of appointment at the Lecturer, Assistant Teaching Professor, Associate Teaching Professor, or Full Teaching Professor level will be determined on prior experience and will be discussed with candidates during the interview process.
