The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at James Madison University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant or associate professor in data science. This is a full-time position with an anticipated, negotiable start date of August 2021.

 

The Mathematics and Statistics department at James Madison University includes approximately 50 full time faculty who are engaged in teaching and scholarship in a broad range of sub-disciplines, loosely grouped into pure and applied mathematics, statistics, and mathematics education. We currently offer Bachelor’s degrees in Mathematics and Statistics, and minors in mathematics and statistics, and are the core group offering a minor in data analytics. The department houses the Center for Statistical Consulting that provides research and scholarship support to faculty, staff and students across the campus and also to external groups. We are proud of our outreach efforts that include the annual Expanding Your Horizons and Shenandoah Undergraduate Mathematics & Statistics conferences. The successful candidate will provide leadership in developing undergraduate and graduate data science programs at JMU in collaboration with colleagues in the department, the College of Science and Mathematics, and JMU. Teaching responsibilities will include new and existing courses in data science and statistics at the undergraduate and graduate level.

 

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in statistics or relevant area, preferably with experience in data science. We are especially interested in candidates with experience in graduate programs in data science who could provide leadership in developing undergraduate and graduate data science programs at JMU, collaborating within the department, the college and the university. An ideal candidate should have demonstrated commitment towards building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment.
