Location: Up to 100% Remote

 

University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) is seeking a Senior Director of Web Strategy and Operations. Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Marketing Optimization, the Senior Director of Web Strategy and Operations will establish UMGC’s web strategy and execute the web operations of the UMGC digital marketing plan, providing exceptional user experience for our customers, supporting the UMGC identity across our digital platforms and meeting our business objectives. The successful candidate will possess a unique blend of both hands-on technical experience and strong leadership skills, and be responsible for leading a team of technologists, collaborate with functional teams, and act as the bridge between Marketing, Business Units, AccelerEd IT Operations and web development, maximizing web technologies to build and improve our digital presence and meet the overall web needs of UMGC. This person will be responsible for optimizing the website experience and delivering continuous improvements, in conjunction with other teams, in key performance metrics such as SEO results, visitor engagement, and conversions.

 

This position is up to 100% remote with occasional travel to UMGC's Maryland-based offices not to exceed four (4) times per year. While salaried, the core business hours for this role will align with the Eastern time zone.

 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Operational responsibility for web properties, content management and delivery systems to ensure SLAs are met for content publishing, page load times, uptime, etc.

  • Lead and mentor technology team including architecture, design, and code reviews

  • Establish UMGC standards for architectural frameworks, coding standards, development tools, and software engineering processes

  • Ability to understand the needs of all stakeholders and effectively prioritize tasks best suited to UMGC’s goals

  • Strategic leadership to improve processes, technology, and performance

  • Ability to bridge the gap between Technology, Marketing, and Business Units to deliver an exceptional web experience

  • Critical thinking to quickly understand and lead operational issues, escalation and prioritization to achieve resolution

  • Leverage analytics to track and manage performance, and to inform decisions on web site content, priorities, etc.  Represent the university on what is necessary to achieve its goals.

  • Management of all technology requirements including maintenance needs of web systems and technology partner integrations used to generate and capture demand for the business

  • Employ best practices including end-user testing and other user experience methodologies and governance to leverage the marketing technology stack to optimally drive business growth

  • Develop and execute web strategy by evangelizing content and engagement best practices to optimize website experience, visitor engagement, and conversions

  • Collaborate to optimize SEO programs and web experience to increase quality web traffic, leading to improvement in visitor-to-lead conversion

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline (computer science, engineering, mathematics, statistics, a science, etc.) from an accredited institution of higher learning

  • 8+ years of site management experience, specifically with website planning, design, development, optimization and administration (hands-on AEM experience preferred)

  • 3+ years working with reporting tools such as Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics, tag management solutions, etc.

  • Excellent project management, analytical and problem-solving skills — scoping work, driving execution and delivering on deadlines while working with multiple stakeholders

  • Mature manager and mentor of others, offering good coaching and guidance

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to articulate findings to executives; comfortable building PowerPoint presentations summarizing insights

  • Experience implementing, deploying, and operationalizing web, marketing, and advertising technologies

  • Experience with implementing web technologies and personalization tools

  • Understanding of marketing and sales lifecycles and their respective pressures on the marketing function to drive demand and revenue

  • Comfortably manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously amid ambiguity to meet marketing objectives

  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and execute effectively with a strong solutions and results orientation

  • Ability to develop proof-of-concepts using front-end and back-end web technologies

  • Experience mentoring and managing developers for longer term development activities

  • Experience developing front-end and back-end development frameworks including but not limited to Cold Fusion, Java, JQuery, AJAX, JSON, HTML, XML, cloud-based technologies

  • Designing and development experience of architectural components including APIs and common, reusable libraries

  • Ability to define and document architecture and technical approach to front-end and back-end development projects

  • Experience performing code, environment, and design reviews to ensure best practices and enterprise standards

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a dynamic work environment
