University of Illinois Chicago College of Nursing
Nominations and applications are invited for the position of Dean of the College of Nursing at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC). The UIC College of Nursing has a long history of excellence in nursing leadership, research, education and practice at the University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System (UI Health) and throughout urban and rural communities locally and globally.
The UIC College of Nursing
The College has a strong reputation for achieving excellence in
education, research, clinical practice and service and prioritizes
community and organization involvement. The College offers a
Bachelor of Science in Nursing, a Master of Science degree, a
Doctor of Nursing Practice degree with 12 specialties, a Doctor of
Philosophy, and certificate programs that cover a spectrum of areas
within the nursing sciences. The 1,500 diverse baccalaureate and
graduate students apply "science to solutions" at six campuses -
Chicago, Peoria, Quad Cities, Rockford, Springfield and Urbana. UIC
Nursing houses the $6.1 million, state-of-the-art M. Christine
Schwartz Experiential Learning & Simulation Laboratory, which
is among the largest at any U.S. nursing school.
The faculty are recognized nationally for their outstanding productivity and excellence in research and translating findings into health care practice. The faculty practice is uniquely positioned within an academic health center and includes community-based initiatives and a federally qualified health center (FQHC).
The College has consistently ranked in the top ten among all U.S. nursing schools for NIH research funding. The UIC Nursing DNP program is ranked 6th in the nation by the 2020 US News & World Report and the RN to BSN Online Degree is ranked 3rd. The College has maintained its Collaborating Centre for International Nursing Development in Primary Health Care with the World Health Organization for over 30 years. The College has 29 Fellows of the American Academy of Nursing and 7 faculty in Sigma Theta Tau's International Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame.

The Opportunity
The Dean has executive responsibility for the College and reports to the UIC Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs, who oversees UIC's seven health science colleges and the care delivery system (www.vcha.uic.edu). The position of Dean requires dynamic leadership, innovative vision, as well as outstanding communication and administrative skills. The Dean should build, sustain and expand clinical, research and education programs locally and globally. The Dean must be able to align essential internal and external constituencies toward common goals and to garner resources through leadership of the clinical enterprise, education, fund-raising, extramural research support and prudent budgeting and resource management.

Candidates should have a doctorate in nursing or a related field; an outstanding record of scholarly achievement, professional accomplishments and qualifications consistent with appointment as a full professor and eligible for tenure; demonstrated commitment to diversity and fostering an inclusive environment; success as a mentor to faculty and students; excellence in teaching and learning, and support of shared faculty governance; experience with Interprofessional Practice and Education (IPE) programs; strong collaborative negotiating and administrative leadership experience as well as a national reputation. Eligibility for RN licensure by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation in Nursing is required.
