General Summary/Purpose:

The laboratory of Dr. Warren Grayson in the Translational Tissue Engineering Center at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine is seeking a highly motivated Research Technologist to help manage daily operations and support research in orthopaedic tissue engineering.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

    The Grayson Lab wishes to recruit qualified individuals to support our group’s research. The Research Technologist will be trained in cutting edge technologies in principles of bone tissue engineering and translational regenerative therapies and have access to state-of-the-art resources and equipment,andcontribute to high-impact research at the interface of engineering and medicine. Direction of research projects under the general supervision of the faculty investigatorand senior lab members Protocol development and assay design. Critical analysis of data. Identification and troubleshooting of situations requiring special attention. Labmanagementand organization. Operating, and maintaining lab equipment and supplies. Design of figures and preparation of text for reports and publications

Equipment, Machine, or Tool Requirements:

    Culture of primary cells and established cell lines Cell-based activity studies MATLAB 3D printing Mechanical testing of scaffolds Microscope imaging

Minimum Qualifications (mandatory):

    Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant research experience in molecular and cell biology is preferred.
  • The successful candidate will be proficient in best lab practices, exhibit strong communication andmanagementskills, and demonstrate the ability to work independently. Many department laboratories operate 24/7 with schedules on day, evening,ornight shift. Rotating schedules may include weekend work and holiday assignment.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
