The University of Nevada, Reno seeks a dynamic, visionary leader to serve as Dean, University Libraries and Teaching & Learning Technologies, at Nevada's oldest institution of higher education and the state's land-grant institution. The University community includes over 20,000 undergraduate and graduate students. It is designated an “R1” and Engaged University by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and is ranked in Tier 1 by the U.S. News and World Report. This position reports to the Executive Vice President & Provost and works collaboratively with all other deans on campus. The anticipated start date for the position is July 1, 2021.
The University Libraries has been a cornerstone of the University since it was founded in 1874. Today it encompasses a blend of cutting-edge research facilities and services, including the state of the art Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center (main library), Special Collections and University Archives, DeLaMare Science and Engineering Library, Jon Bilbao Basque Library, @One Digital Media and Technology Center, and Teaching & Learning Technologies (TLT). The Dean oversees the operations of the University Libraries in support of the University mission to advance teaching, research, student learning, and community engagement. It is under the Dean's guidance and strategic direction that the Libraries fulfill their mission to further intellectual inquiry and innovation; partner with students and faculty in the creation of new knowledge; and foster excellence in education through providing access to scholarly resources, active learning environments, cutting-edge technology, and knowledgeable assistance, all with an underlying core focus on diversity and inclusion. Additionally, the Dean oversees TLT which is the academic technology unit for the University. TLT provides support for instructional design, faculty development, instructional technologies, and technology in the University's classrooms.
The ideal candidate will embody the qualities of a thoughtful communicator; be creative and responsive to the needs of students, faculty, and campus library support; promote trust, autonomy and accountability with library staff through results-oriented leadership; and ensure that the University is on the leading edge of evolving higher education library environments.

- ALA accredited MLS or equivalent
- Eligible for tenure, which may be demonstrated by achievement of tenure and rank at another institution.
- Seven years of progressive responsibility in an academic or research library environment, including significant experience in the management and supervision of librarians and professional staff, in the administration of a library or library unit, and administering operational budgets.
- Professional knowledge in relevant fields, to include developments in library technology and instructional media, as well as an understanding of their relationship to libraries and classrooms as teaching and learning spaces
- Experience managing change and building partnerships within and across major units.
- Evidence of a commitment to faculty, student, and program diversity
- A second Master's or doctorate
- Demonstrated experience in fundraising and development of community partnerships
- Experience with library collections management
- Eligible for hire at the rank of full professor
