The FIU College of Communication, Architecture + The Arts (CARTA) provides students with the distinct experience of working closely with an award-winning faculty in nationally ranked accredited programs in the heart of Miami, North Miami, Miami Beach, and Wynwood—four of the country’s most vibrant, diverse, and creative cities. CARTA emphasizes experiential learning, where students learn by doing through art and design studios, performances and productions, a student-run communication agency, and student news bureaus in Miami, New York City and Washington, D.C. Focused on its engaged mission of driving the information, innovation, and cultural economy of South Florida and beyond, CARTA is committed to a trans-disciplinary, experiential learning curriculum that prepares graduates for meaningful careers and leadership in their chosen professions.


FIU’s Department of Communication brings together 34 faculty members, six academic advisors, and 18 staff members. Our department offers three degrees: a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communication with specialization in Public Relations and Advertising; a Bachelor of Arts in Communication with tracks in Organizational Communication, Art and Performance Studies, or Design Studies; and a Master of Science in Global Strategic Communications. The B.A. in Organizational Communication, the B.S. in PRAAC and the M.S. in Global Strategic Communications are available fully online. The department is part of the School of Communication + Journalism (SCJ) which has been accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC) since 1991.

Our department is searching for a tenure track Assistant Professor in communication. We invite a new colleague to join our professional and scholarly community in an exciting college, dynamic university, and vibrant city. Candidates with areas of specialization in various communication fields of study are encouraged to apply and should possess the ability to teach courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels. We strongly encourage historically underrepresented minorities and people with experience in teaching diverse student populations to apply. The position is tenure-earning and there is an expectation of scholarly productivity.


This is a full-time, nine-month, tenure-earning faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful applicant must be able to teach courses offered in face-to-face, online, and/or hybrid delivery methods. This position will have the FIU Modesto Maidique Campus as a primary work location; however, teaching on the FIU Biscayne Bay or I-75 campuses may be necessary.  We seek candidates to who are qualified and prepared to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the following areas or any related areas of the communication field of study:

Minimum qualifications include an earned Ph.D. in communication or related fields by August 2021 from an accredited university.
