The School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences in the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences at the West campus of Arizona State University invites applications for a full time, benefits eligible position in Chemistry at the Lecturer level to begin in August 2021.

The School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences, New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences (https://newcollege.asu.edu/mathematical-natural-sciences-degree-programs) at Arizona State University, is an interdisciplinary mathematical and natural sciences unit that encompasses biology, chemistry, computing, forensics, statistics, mathematics, and physics.  Successful candidates will be expected to provide innovative instruction in chemistry and to contribute service to the university and the profession.  Faculty can participate in university-wide graduate programs.  The School is committed to recruiting and retaining students and faculty from groups that have historically been underrepresented in the sciences.  The campus of ASU where New College is housed is a liberal arts teaching campus of ASU that strives for more contact between students and instructors not only in the classroom but also in mentored research projects.

Essential Functions of Lecturers:

The individual filling this position will teach up to five chemistry lectures or labs per semester, work with colleagues within and outside the department to develop innovative curricula that enhance student access and success, hold regular office hours, and provide other departmental service as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

1. Master’s degree in chemistry or closely related field by the time of appointment;
2. Experience teaching college level chemistry or similar courses;
3. The ability and commitment to work with diverse populations and encourage student success.

Desired Qualifications:

1. Doctoral degree in chemistry of related field;
2. At least five years’ experience teaching at the college level;
3. Experience using course management software such as Canvas and Blackboard;
4. Experience in collaborative teaching efforts with instructors of other course sections or disciplines;
5. Experience or demonstrated commitment to incorporating the principles of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion in teaching and research;
6. Sensitivity to and experience working with diverse student populations;
7. Teaching background that demonstrates an ability to develop an atmosphere that encourages student success.
