The School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences in the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences at Arizona State University - West campus invites applications for a full-time, benefits-eligible position in Forensic Science at the Lecturer level to begin in August 2021.

 

General information: 

The School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences is an interdisciplinary unit that encompasses computing, mathematics, statistics, biology, chemistry, forensics, and physics. The school is committed to (1) providing a personalized learning experience in the midst of the largest public university in the nation, (2) offering innovative coursework and hands-on experiences to prepare students for the technological, social and cultural challenges they will face, and (3) recruiting and retaining students and faculty from groups that have historically been underrepresented in the sciences.

Essential Functions of Lecturers: 

The individual filling this position is expected to deliver excellent in-class and online instruction at the undergraduate level, contribute to curriculum development of Forensic Science related courses, provide course coordination for large classes with multiple sections, and contribute other service to the School and University. The typical teaching load is four courses per semester. Lecturers are also expected to work with colleagues within and outside the school to develop innovative curricula that enhance student access and success. Typical classes may include but are not limited to: FOR 105/106: Physical/ Biological Evidence at the Crime Scene (for non-majors), FOR 286: Principles of Forensic Science, FOR 370: Fundamentals of Forensic Analysis, FOR 400: Comparative Forensics, and FOR 410: Testimony and Ethics in Forensic Science.

Required Qualifications:

  1. M.S. (or equivalent or higher degree) in Forensic Science, or related field by the time of appointment.
  2. Experience working with diverse populations and encouraging student success.
  3. Experience teaching at the college level.

Desired Qualifications: 

  1. 2+ years of experience teaching at the college level.
  2. Record of scholarly activity in the Forensic Sciences.
  3. Experience working with or employment by a crime laboratory.
  4. PhD and/or Postdoctoral experience.
  5. Teaching experience including course development.
  6. Additional graduate coursework beyond the M.S. degree.
  7. Experience using course management and automatic-grading software such as Canvas.
  8. Experience in collaborative teaching efforts with other disciplines, supervising supplemental kinds of student learning or administrative duties related to teaching.
  9. Experience or demonstrated commitment to incorporating the principles of justice equity, diversity, and inclusion in teaching and research
