Assistant Professor - Social Sciences

The Department of Social Sciences at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez Campus, seeks applications for a tenure track position in General Social Sciences.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Minimum requirements include Ph.D. from an accredited institution in one of the fields of Social Sciences or Social Work at the time of appointment. Interested candidates must demonstrate ability for teaching, research, publishing, and mentoring in more than one of these preferred areas, General Social Sciences, Social Work, Human Services and Gender Issues. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills in Spanish and English.

DUTIES

 Excellent performance in teaching undergraduate courses in the areas of human needs and the welfare system, intervention with families, social research methods will be expected of the selected candidate. Must be able to work in a multidisciplinary environment. Other responsibilities include: conduct research in her/his area of expertise, publish research work in peer-reviewed conferences and journals, mentor undergraduate students, participate in faculty committees, institutional assessment, and improvement activities. Availability to participate in research and learning services projects with vulnerable communities, gender violence victims (women, men, older adults, youth, and children).

HOW TO APPLY

Interested candidates must submit a short, medium, and long-term work plan related to teaching and research. In addition, the applicants must submit a model of how to bring external funds to the institution to support teaching and/or research.

Candidates must also send a letter of intent, curriculum vitae, official transcripts of all grades, student evaluations (if applicable), a detailed plan of their research and teaching interests, and three (3) letters of references professionals.
