Assistant Professor - Mechanical Engineering

Tenure track position  in the emerging focus areas of Robotics, Automation and Controls.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS 

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus (UPRM), extends an invitation to outstanding candidates to apply for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor.  The candidate must have an exceptional academic preparation or demonstrate an outstanding experience in university teaching, scientific research and/or in the application of knowledge in their particular field.  The position requires a doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering or related fields. The candidates must demonstrate an exceptional background in their area of ​​specialty, and have a strong commitment to teaching, research and service to the University.  Priority will be given to candidates that have the potential to immediately impact emerging focus areas in Robotics, Automation and Controls, as applied to Mechanical Engineering. We invite candidates with an outstanding track record in the areas of robotics, mechatronics, dynamics and controls who have the vision and the ability to carry out research that merges robotics with other disciplines such as assistive technologies, additive manufacturing, machine learning and data-driven simulations. Candidates who demonstrate synergy in the aforementioned areas with applications in aerospace / aeronautical engineering are welcome. Priority will be given to candidates who demonstrate a high level of fluency in English and Spanish. 

 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

The Department of Mechanical Engineering has the undergraduate program with the highest demand and highest potential for growth at the College of Engineering of the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus.  The undergraduate program is duly accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).  In addition, the Department has a growing Master's and Doctoral program with high-level research, and extensive funding opportunities (US federal government, local and international private industry).  Faculty responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses, developing a world-class research program with external funding, publishing scientific articles in high-end conferences and journals, and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students.  The candidate must be willing to work in a multidisciplinary environment.
