Research Specialist

Position Summary:
The Water Quality Research Specialist will provide support for the CALS Clean Water science program in conducting research on next-generation water treatment technologies for dairy and agricultural systems in Idaho. Research will be conducted primarily on advancing sand filtration, rotary belt filters, and solids recovery. The work will focus on applied additive manufacturing experiments, with an emphasis on issues of relevance to dairy systems. Research topics include, but are not limited to, additive manufacturing, computer aided design, nutrient recovery, and water quality analysis for sustainable dairy systems.
Minimum Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Mechanical, Biological, Chemical, Civil Engineering or related STEM field.
- Two years of post-bachelor’s research experience.
- Experience with computer-aided design, drafting, microcontrollers, and code (C++, Python, Matlab, Processing, Rhino3D).
- Experience with experimental design, collecting, analyzing, and interpreting technical data.
- Experience with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and laboratory processes.
- Knowledge of general chemical and biological laboratory procedures and principles.
- Ability to maintain organized and reproducible records of experiments in a lab journal.
- Knowledge and ability to learn and perform new techniques, adapt and troubleshoot methods and equipment.
- Ability to multi-task and work efficiently in stressful situations.
- Forklift or heavy equipment experience.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
- Must be available to coordinate and work occasional nights and weekends during travel to seasonal field research locations.
- May be required to work with toxic, volatile, and corrosive chemicals and/or carcinogenic substances (proper handing and safety equipment will be provided).
- Must be able to climb ladders, lift, carry, and/or otherwise move objects weight up to 50 lbs.
- Employee should be able to comfortably sit, stand, twist, kneel, and reach to work with equipment.
