SUNY Sullivan is seeking to fill the position of Dean of Student Success and Workforce Development. The Dean of Student Success and Workforce Development leads the College’s retention, completion, and workforce development programing. The position oversees the administration of quality customer-oriented services in the Financial Aid, Learning Center, Registration Services, and Liberty Partnership Program units of the college. The Dean also serves as the Title IX compliance officer and coordinates the College’s compliance with federal and state discrimination and sexual harassment laws.

This position reports to the Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs and supervises the Director of Financial Aid, the Director of Registration Services/Registrar, the Director of the Learning Center, the Director of the Liberty Partnership Program, and the Associate to the Dean of Student Success and Workforce Development.

This is a Management Confidential position, with responsibilities for the formulation of policy and contract negotiations.

Evening and weekend hours may be required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree in Student Personnel Services, Marketing, Higher Education Leadership, Enrollment Management or related field.
  • A minimum of three years of related experience, preferably at a community college.
  • Five years of supervisory management experience.
  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish strongly preferred

Knowledge and Abilities

  • The ability to develop and implement a leadership vision consistent with the strategic direction of the college.
  • Knowledge of enrollment management theory and effective practice, including, student success initiatives and retention strategies.
  • Thorough understanding of the diversity of community college academic and certificate programs and the application of associated careers and job paths.
  • Strong working knowledge of current higher education and enrollment trends, issues, strategies, regulations and compliance in the State of New York, regionally, nationally, and internationally.
  • Thorough understanding of database management, student information systems (preferably Jenzabar EX), statistical data interpretation and the application of information technology to recruitment and retention programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop measurable outcomes and apply assessment strategies to formulate data-driven decisions.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and student success.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to interact and work effectively with administrators, academic leadership, faculty, students, community leadership, public officials, funding agencies, and members of the community at large.
  • Ability to perform successfully under the pressure of deadlines and other administrative demands.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide transformational leadership for college-wide retention planning; set retention goals and lead retention efforts at the college. Oversee the development, implementation and evaluation of programs and services to accomplish the College’s goals and objectives for student retention. This includes:
    • Seminars, workshops, short courses and other group activities that support the academic, social, emotional and personal growth of the students
    • Academic advisement, tutoring, career development and transfer services, and personal counseling to students enrolled at SUNY Sullivan
    • Services to students with disabilities, Veterans, and non-traditional students to ensure the delivery of educational, social and support services
    • Services provided by professional and student tutors
    • The coordination of the design and delivery of the first year experience
  • Chair the Enrollment Management Committee.
  • Produce and distribute progress reports on enrollment goals.
  • Identify, develop, and track a standardized set of enrollment metrics.
  • Lead the campus conversation on enrollment to ensure that the culture of the college is focused on data.
  • Using the Enrollment Management Committee as a cross-functional team, lead the development and implementation of an annual comprehensive enrollment management plan for the College.
  • Lead the college’s Title IX compliance programming.
    • Oversee all Title IX complaints and reports of gender discrimination, sexual harassment, sexual violence and related allegations of sexual misconduct as they impact students or the academic environment.
    • Coordinate the College’s compliance with federal and state discrimination and sexual harassment laws.
    • Provide educational programs regarding discrimination and sexual harassment prevention, working with other departments to communicate Title IX policies to all constituencies.
    • Respond to, investigate and seek resolution to allegations of discrimination and sexual harassment.
    • Identify and address any systemic problems relating to complaints.
    • Communicate with law enforcement personnel and other relevant College administrators to handle reports and complaints of gender discrimination or sexual violence and related misconduct appropriately.
  • Lead the college’s workforce development programming.
  • Provide strategic leadership and direction to the College’s effort to maximize and develop contract, noncredit, and continuing professional education that responds to workforce needs.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local employers, government and non-profit agencies, and economic development organizations.
  • Serve as a liaison for the College with business and industry partners, private funders, government officials, and grant agencies.
  • As a member of the Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs leadership team, the dean acts to further the institution’s goals towards diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs.
