Overview


Employment Status: Full-time, At-Will, "Exempt" position, included in the Management Personnel Plan (MPP).

Work Schedule: Generally, Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Evenings and weekends as needed.

Typical Activities
The Office of Student Engagement (OSE) serves as an important space for students to get involved, engaged, and develop leadership at CSUSB. OSE works with student clubs & organizations, fraternities & sororities, leadership development programming, oversees the National Student Exchange program, and implements broader campus activities that encourage individual student involvement and student leadership development at CSUSB. The mission of OSE is to provide, create, and support an inclusive student experience through leadership, social and co-curricular opportunities that foster student engagement and build affinity to CSUSB.

Under the general supervision of the Associate Vice President of Student Affairs/Dean of Students, the Director of Student Engagement serves as a lead professional staff member in the Office of Student Engagement and is responsible for advising, developing programs and initiatives that promote engagement and leadership at CSUSB. The incumbent will collaborate with inter/national headquarters, campus departments, alumni, and advisors to provide leadership and vision in supporting the self-governance and values-based leadership of the fraternity and sorority community and oversight of student clubs and organizations. The Director is responsible for leadership development, risk management, and other mandated/necessary trainings for the student organizations. As a senior leader in the Office of Student Engagement, the incumbent will serve in the director's capacity and is responsible for projects and initiatives related to campus-wide student engagement including leadership development programs.

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
  • A Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • At least three (3) years of management and administrative experience working with student organizations, fraternities, and sororities.
  • Commitment to and experience with working with intercultural populations of students.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in High Education and/or College Personnel or related field.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience providing advising, developing programs and initiatives that promote engagement and leadership.
  • Record of demonstrated success advising college students, developing student leaders, and advising student organizations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge in the areas of student development, high impact practices, program coordination, risk management, conflict resolution, group dynamics, fiscal management, co-curricular assessment, and professional team development.
  • Demonstrated the ability to function effectively in high-paced work environments, proven competence in managing multiple tasks and competing priorities, demonstrated ability to supervise professional and student staff, and a demonstrated commitment to continued personal and professional development.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU.
