The Department of English at Texas A&M University invites applicants for a full-time, 9 month tenure-track position in English (Rhetoric) with primary specialization in Technical/Professional Communication.  The start date for this position is August 1, 2021; classes are expected to begin in mid-August.  The position requires a PhD in English or a related field, with a specialization in rhetoric, writing, or technical/professional communication. The successful candidate will maintain an active publication agenda. Though field of specialization within technical communication is open, we are interested in candidates whose work might intersect with departmental strengths in areas such as digital humanities, health humanities, rhetoric of science, and Latinx writing; other areas of particular interest include environmental rhetoric, cultural rhetorics, and social justice. The candidate will also help develop the department’s professional/technical communication program, with the immediate opportunity to develop specialized sections of technical/professional writing focused on contemporary issues such as global health advocacy, social justice, digital ethics, global Englishes, civic engagement, and the environment.

Texas A&M’s English department is home to an undergraduate major and minor, a certificate in professional writing, a minor in health humanities, and MA and PhD programs. Job responsibilities include teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in technical and/or professional communication, writing pedagogy, and rhetorical theory; undertaking appropriate academic service on departmental, college, and university committees; and mentoring students from diverse cultural backgrounds. The normal teaching load is 2/2. This hire will collaborate with another new hire at the instructional rank (currently being sought) to develop specialized technical and professional communication curricula at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
