The University of Rhode Island’s School of Education invites applications for a full-time academic year position in urban education, with specialization in secondary social studies, beginning in Fall 2021 as a tenure track assistant professor. The successful candidate would coordinate the secondary social studies teacher education program and contribute to the development of course offerings relative to the urban school context. The search committee is particularly interested in candidates who, through their research, teaching, and/or service, will enhance the School’s commitment to anti-racism, diversity, equity, and academic excellence.
Developing and maintaining an appropriate agenda of research and funding; teaching courses for secondary social studies teacher education, including, but not limited to methods of teaching social studies; developing courses with an urban education/social foundations perspective; advising undergraduate and graduate students; and engaging in sustainable partnerships to build knowledge and improve practices that serve urban students and schools.
