The Writing and Rhetoric Program in the Department of English
invites exceptionally qualified candidates for a non-tenure track
open rank Teaching Professor faculty position. We are seeking
candidates whose teaching, research, and/or graduate course work
positions them to teach first-year composition to multilingual and
international students. This 12-month appointment carries a 4/4/3
teaching load and is eligible for promotion. Job duties include
developing and teaching primarily first-year composition courses to
international students to whom English is not their primary
language and completing Program service. Course release is possible
with growing service assignments. These positions are renewable,
contingent upon budget, and offer a competitive salary and benefits
package, along with a promotion ladder.
Our growing and energetic Program seeks colleagues with strong
professional backgrounds in the field of rhetoric and composition,
TESOL, and applied linguistics along with a commitment to
excellence in teaching and student success. The new faculty member
will have opportunity to contribute to a growing international
emphasis in the university as a whole and in the writing program in
particular. Recruitment of international students is increasing as
are the number of FIU programs taught internationally. The Writing
Program has a new major track in Writing and Rhetoric, a
Certificate in Professional and Public Writing, as well as a core
curriculum writing program that serves 8,000 students a year.
Candidates should hold an MA in TESOL or Applied Linguistics and
have experience in Composition or hold an MA in Composition with
graduate work and experience in TESOL. FIU, one of the nation’s
largest Hispanic-serving universities, is a majority/minority
