WILLIAM & MARY, a public university of the Commonwealth of Virginia located in Williamsburg, Virginia, has the following tenure- and non-tenure track positions that will begin August 10, 2021. We are hiring at the Assistant Professor or the Lecturer level as indicated in each notice.

For all tenure eligible positions, a doctoral degree in the respective field is required at the time appointment begins. Duties for tenure eligible positions include research and teaching in the respective field, as well as service to the university. At minimum, applicants will be asked to submit a curriculum vitae and a cover letter including a statement on teaching and research interests and a statement describing previous professional experience or future plans (or both) that demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusion. COMPUTER SCIENCE. (Specialization: Open. Required Qualification: Ph.D. in computer science or a related field is required at the time of appointment. Applicants must have a strong research record and a commitment to teaching.) The Department of Computer Science at William & Mary seeks applications for three tenure-track positions at the Assistant Professor level to begin in the 2021-2022 academic year. We are interested in exceptional applicants from all areas of computer science. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in computer science or a related field at the time of appointment and must have a strong research record and a commitment to teaching. The applicant is expected to establish a high-quality research program, publish research results in top venues, teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, supervise graduate and undergraduate research, and attract external funding to support their research activities. DATA SCIENCE. (Specialization: Big Data Mining, Network Analysis, or Data Visualization. Required Qualifications: Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Data Science, Information Science, Computer Science, or a related field by the time of appointment (August 10, 2021). Preferred Qualifications: Postdoctoral research experience is desirable, and previous experience in teaching and mentoring successful undergraduate and graduate research is a plus.) The Data Science Program at William & Mary, a public university of the Commonwealth of Virginia, seeks applications for two tenure-track positions at the Assistant Professor level in Data Science. Appointments will begin August 10, 2021. We are primarily interested in individuals with expertise in Big Data Mining, Network Analysis, or Data Visualization, but exceptional applicants from other areas of Data Science may also be considered.  The applicant is expected to maintain a productive research program that inspires highly motivated graduate students (M.S and Ph.D level) and undergraduate students, and that has the potential to yield external funding. Successful applicants should have a broad knowledge of data analytics, with a strong interest in teaching to multidisciplinary, liberal arts audiences, including students in disciplines outside of traditional STEM areas. Teaching expectation is 2 courses per semester. Successful applicants must possess the skills to teach compelling courses in their area of expertise, as well as contribute to teaching standard undergraduate courses such as Introduction to Data Science and Machine Learning.

MATHEMATICS. (Specialization: Operations Research. Required Qualifications: Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Operations Research or a closely related field at the time appointment begins (August 10, 2021). Preferred Qualifications: Postdoctoral research experience is desirable, and previous experience in teaching and mentoring successful undergraduate research is preferred. The Applied Mathematics Unit of the Department of Mathematics at William & Mary, a public university of the Commonwealth of Virginia, seeks applications for a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level in Operations Research. Appointment will begin August 10, 2021. We are interested in individuals with research and teaching expertise in the general area of operations research. The applicant is expected to maintain a productive research program that inspires highly motivated undergraduate and Masters students and that has the potential to yield external funding. Teaching expectation is 2 courses per semester. Successful applicants must possess the skills to teach compelling graduate courses in operations research and other lecture and seminar-style courses in undergraduate mathematics.

LECTURERS: Arts & Sciences has the following non-tenure eligible (NTE) Lecturer instructional positions available. Degree requirements and responsibilities are listed in each description. LECTURER OF COMPUTER SCIENCE (Specialization: Computer science or computer programming. Required: A Master’s degree is required. Preferred: A Ph.D. or ABD is preferred at the time appointment begins (August 10, 2021). The Department of Computer Science at William & Mary invites applications for a non-tenure-track Lecturer position that will begin August 10, 2021. The initial term is for one year and renewal is contingent on successful performance review, department needs, and availability of funding. We seek an individual with expertise in computer science or computer programming. The successful applicant will be expected to be an effective teacher and will have a 3-3 teaching load. The Department of Computer Science is at the beginning of a multi-year effort to double the size of its undergraduate major as part of the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Tech Talent Investment Program. ­LECTURER OF PHYSICS (Specialization: Lab Manager. Required: Near completion of a Ph.D. dissertation (ABD) in Physics or a closely related field at the time of appointment. Preferred qualifications include: a Ph.D. by the time the appointment begins; experience in the managing of introductory labs; experience in  one or more of the topics of: modern electronics and instrumentation,  engineering physics or project management; ability to supervise students in capstone physics or engineering physics design projects.)  The Department of Physics at William & Mary invites applications for a non-tenure-track Lecturer position that will begin August 10, 2021. The successful candidate will be expected to be an effective teacher, and to teach physics and/or astronomy courses at the undergraduate level for both majors and non-majors. Teaching responsibilities will comprise three courses per semester, and will typically include physics lectures and introductory lab sections. Service responsibilities will   include managing graduate teaching assistants, preparation of lecture demonstrations and management of departmental equipment inventory.  In addition to the 9-month academic year salary, the Lecturer will have summer lab or other related responsibilities, for which the employee will receive compensation equivalent to one additional month pay.  There may also be opportunities for paid grant-funded summer research.

LECTURER OF PUBLIC POLICY  (Specialization: Public Policy.  Required: A Ph.D. or J.D. degree is required at the time appointment begins (August 10, 2021). Preferred: Previous academic teaching experience is preferred.)  The Public Policy Program at William & Mary, a public university of the Commonwealth of Virginia, invites applications for a one year, non-tenure-track lecturer position that will begin August 10, 2021. We seek an individual with expertise in public policy, either from a theoretical or applied perspective, to teach core classes in our Master in Public Policy (MPP) program and our undergraduate public policy major (B.A. Public Policy). The position carries a 3-3 teaching load and successful candidates will have a commitment to high quality teaching. We will consider candidates with graduate degrees in Public Policy, Political Science, or Economics or candidates from other disciplines with significant professional experience in the field of public policy.
